Love it or hate it, people mod "little bikes". Spending 5 years waiting for a TT99 conviction to come off my license because of the insurance hike saw me become one of them.
With the '600 under cover for when i get my full license and just left to sit for years, riding the 125 on L plates "again" was inevitable.
I was just starting lessons when I got banned, had the 600 parked up waiting for some TLC once I had my license.
Anyways, knowing I would be back on L's long before I could think of riding the 600 - its seemed sensible to get that one road legal first.
So in-between 3 house moves and my youngest son being conceived and born it was stripped bare, and painted.

The engine was dismantled, cleaned, rebored, new bearings, gaskets seals all the fun-stuff. So fun I forgot to take pics of any of it.
In fact I didnt take pics of much at all really.
Having sourced clocks, and a small set of lights and made brackets for it all the front looked .....well crap.
Big beefy ( for a small bike) USD forks, and tiny little silver clocks and loads of wires and cables - it looked a mess.
But what to do?
I had an old bike helmet to cut up and hide most of it, but thats been done to death.
After messing around with different ideas, for a while I thought bollocks, bike helmet it is - just a bit different.
Lots of cutting, chopping, play-dough, toy balls and a serious amount of fiberglass later the front end is "born".

Like it or love it - it kept me busy, and kept me interested in bikes.
Getting close to being able to ride again and this project had advanced no where as much as i liked. Bit of a panic now to get it on the road for this summer.
The bike is still powered by the standard CBR125 engine and i had no funds ready for an exhaust system.
Needs must, grinder meets welder, Eyes meet arc - more than once and PJ1 hides all!!
New exhaust system is thrown together out of scrap in the yard - most of it from a reliant robin exhaust system believe it or not.
The "silencer" is a square box that sits in the subframe where the space under the pillion seat should be and exits into two 50mm oblong pipes, sounds unbelievably standard to be fair but hey, it works and was free ( barring the PJ1 )

Chopped a few mudguards up before settling with this is a rear hugger

which i promptly spilt brake fluid on when doing the back brakes but never mind....
Was bored early on in the project so decided to give the front mudguard a little alien dude

Treated it to brand new chain and sprockets just before MOT

Petrol tank still needs a proper paint - its just had a few coats of black to get through MOT and on road

Riding after a 5 year timeout - is definitely an eye-opener. Nothing is "the same" the bike doesnt feel the same i dont feel the same and it feels new and clumbsy but never mind, back on with tests and lessons and the 600 will ride again one day
All in all not a bad little bike and its serving its purpose |

What are the forks off of? I thought CBRs had RWU forks? I think a set of hand guards & some sort of bellypan would finish it off nicely. |

Take a finished photo of the complete bike so we can see it in all it's glory!
I'd have much rather have ridden around on something like that as a learner instead of all the sports 125's my mates were on. ____________________ Now: '00 Kawasaki ZRX1100R - Past: '84 Yamaha DT125, '89 Kawasaki KLR600, '97 Yamaha XJ600N

Plenty of work gone into that bike!
I've never seen the helmet thing for a front end going on before, and it's not a look I like, but still your machine is very individual and mechanically in great condition too, so it's all good! |

To be fair Ive just spent today making a new exhaust. The one pictured is routed way to close to the seat and after sticking a quick 30 miles on it last night - the underside of my seat has started to melt |
