Saturday afternoon, headed to Llandovery and Erwlon campsite. Tent pitched, and a meal at the West End Café, I headed up the Black Mountains:

Having fun in the fading light:

Tent and kit packed, saw these at breakfast:

So much for everyone in Wales being poor!

First destination, Llyn Brianne:

Of course... Mr. Green :

We have some lovely places on this island and you wonder why people go over the channel. Not been to Ireland, but Scotland, England and Wales all have some really nice roads for bikes and most are fine as long as you don't prat around too much.

there comes a point when most places have been visited if not in whole but in part.. then further afield looks very inviting .. particularly when its so easy on the ferry or tunnel and fuel is cheaper over there.

It would take a very long time to see all this country has to offer, perhaps more than a lifetime. I suppose it depends in what you're interested in. If it's just riding the very best of our roads, then yes, I can see how you could run out of options. But then again, why should riding a good road once mean that all of a sudden, it's not worth doing again? If you do track days, you ride the same little circuit time and again, and often go back more than once to the same circuit.

For me, there is the scenery, places of interest, ever-changing weather for photography - you never quite see the same place twice. You can ride it alone or in groups and vary what you do at each destination. I can't see me ever exhausting that.

Of course I'd love to explore abroad too and unfortunately had to cancel doing so this year. But I'm not finished with Britain yet either.

My dear chap, the pleasure was all mine Smile

Sometimes it feels like all this riding in beautiful places, combined with the photography (amateur though it may be) is leading up to something. God only knows what though; 1200 miles covered in two weekends, so a hole in my bank account most likely Laughing

Petrol and money...both should be burned.

Give me some insight...What have you in mind?
Is it that 2 month uk tour you mentioned?

If it is I could see you taking a pragmatic approach...cutting yer cloth accordingly for xx months then taking some sabbatical thing. It's something that is gnawing in the back of my mind.

Wow HT, you've put me on the spot there! I tried to answer that and ended up rambling away like a loony, so deleted the reply Laughing

To cut a long story short, I'm soon going to be in a position I've never been in before with some choices laid before me. The main part of that I think I've now decided on. But yeah, I'm hoping also to have the means to do something quite extended on the bike before returning to the grind. Maybe next year or the year after (if it's 2016, 2015 is going to be a bitch!).

Too easy in this life to just go along with "the norm" - sometimes I think you have to cut loose a little. If you've got something in mind, my answer would be to go for it and sod the consequences, but I'm lucky enough (? Thinking) in that I have no dependants, so I can get away with it once in a while. But this feels like I'm trying to tell someone who's a lot wiser than me anyway.

Question is, could BCF take an adventure/photography post that stretches to War & Peace proportions? Laughing

I was there this weekend too. Unfortunately one of our number binned it on the 4069 and went down a ravine.

I tell you one thing - it gets cold, dark and lonely up on that mountain at night. Spent 3 hours standing in the cold waiting for his bike to be recovered whilst he went off to Morriston Hospital

Me too, love it Smile I'm guessing you're local to the area? Trouble for me is, I have to ride from Oxfordshire to get there. Sad

Sorry to hear that, hope he makes a full recovery.

Jammy git!
Newtown isn't too bad for me to get to, all the mid Wales area within reach for a day ride, but north of there means needing to camp overnight really. Longest day trip I've done out that way was 450 miles, starting from, and returning to home, but it was a bit much for me really.

Since learning my way around Wales, I've pretty much given up on my home area Laughing

Looks awesome. Great photos.

In fact, I've just rerouted my Wales weekend that I'm going on in a fortnight to include the Elan Valley after your pics.

I'll take my GoPro so may post a video or some pics of my own!

Breathtaking scenery Lone Wolf. Just convinced me to take my normal camera as well. It's only a snap happy Nikon but it's alright.

God. I'm counting down the days now.

Nowt wrong with a Nikon.
I *always* have a compact camera on my belt ( 'cos I ain't got a smart phone ).
If I'm out on a ride then it's either my old faithful Fuji bridge camera or my Pentax.

Here's the ELAN VALLEY area from 2012.

It's one of those places that you never tire of riding to . . . well I ain't yet Cool

I love the Llandovery area having visited twice with my mate in his Landy.
We headed into the hills ASAP so didn't get to see much of the twisty roads so I'm gonna have to re-visit on the bike one day and maybe stay at the excellent Llanerchindda Farm again.
