It's alive
I've been absolutely shitting it all day, thinking what could go wrong or how much of an ordeal it may be getting it going.
Couldn't have asked for better, it fires up, sounds and feels mega crisp and smooth, idles nice and everything. Absolutely made up.
Stupidly threw new carbs on not thinking and it didn't want to catch..finally it clicked... I checked the carbs and slides were totally closed, turned the idle screws in a bit, and first kick it fired. I Pre jetted the carbs to a base setting but didn't think to play with the idle. It runs brill.
Borrowed a standard CDI off a fella on the RDLC Forum and bought a new yammy loom, got a little lithium battery on it, all the wiring needs a tidy but I know what's what now.

I vaguely had an inclination to build a similar thing. Ended up with a reasonable 350YPVS that got sold when I had to move house.
Now I have this instead:

Not quite as much fun as 90bhp, but still excellent fun!

stevo as b4 wrote: | £800ish for a pair of stainless custom one off pipes is a pretty good deal id say when you think of the work, time and measuring and fitting that must go into such works of art.
I assume Kenny measured the engine's squish, CR, Port timings etc and used computer simulation too to help design the pipes?
The Ignitech CDI sounds like a very nice bit of kit too! I don't have an RD no, but I wouldn't mind a programmable CDI to set up and eek out the last bit of performance from my bike's std engine.
Shame that Kenny only likes making YPVS and RD based pipes though! Martin Johnson seems to only do TZR pipes as well, and they both have a great rep for making pipes that work really well too! |
Yep he measured absolutely everything, simulated, fine tuned but also knows his stuff and doesn't just rely on his computer simulation.
Kenny will make pipes for anything mate, he's just done a Suzuki GT500 motor in a GS500, he's doing pipes for a Vdue motor in an RS250, kettle gt750 motor in a TDR too. Try him

Few bits done today, made a mount this morning and installed the dash
https://youtu.be/sXevFb9kNKM
Everything working nice, wired the tacho into the Ignitech CDI as its the most accurate. Got the oil level light wired into the rg500 oil tank level switch.
Fitted a fan to the rad and wired that up,
Got a new set of M7RRs to go on when the wheels are back from powder coating along with titanium disc and pinch bolts and all new wheel bearings. Slowly getting there. ____________________ I'm unhappy cos I eat and I eat cos I'm unhappy |

Fairing looks to sit quite well on there.... can't help thinking it's criminal to hide away those spannies though!
I think I'd be grafting in some clear perspex to the lower half of the side panels
