Thanks lads

Big block of billet 7050 ally has just landed on my desk - should have the subframe mounts all milled out by my friendly machinist by end of the week. Smile

Finally got the subframe fitted up, genuine featherlight ally TZ250 yam subframe and seat unit.

There was no way to fit the seat to a mito subframe and obviously a TZ250 subframe doesn't just fit a mito so I decided the best thing would be to essentially design my own fitting kit... So a 5KE TZ250 subframe now just bolts straight up and the advantage of that is the subframe is well hidden where the mito one would've been largely visible. That and it weighs naff all.

May not seem like a big step but this now means the motor can come out and be built. I didn't wanna dismantle it all without sorting this as it's impossible to know where the seat wants to be without using the pipes for reference.

Hopefully pick up the reasonably quick progress I made at the start of the project now. Feels like I'm on the home stretch a bit but still plenty to do.

Mixed day....

Stripped the shitty old paint off the cases which took forever, popped a new gear arm bush and seal in and new clutch arm needle roller and seal. Replaced all bearings on the gear clusters. All going well until I decided to drill a small hole in my hand. Well the drill snapped and subsequently I slipped and it went straight into my knuckle.

So I'm sat in a&e probably pointless but I don't have a current tetanus jab and to be fair my hand is throbbing like fuck. Ah well, at least what I did looks good.

All bearings are up rated, the box ones are the ones TSS used to do. The front sprocket bearing is a 11 ball max load bearing, same as what I'm using on the crank mains... Standard are 7 ball.

My cylinders are with mick abbey being ported to the port map the pipes were designed for. Hopefully have the bottom end built this week.

I think I may lower the tail a little, it's sat on rubbers at the moment between the subframe. it's supposed to follow the curvature of the wheel more than it does at the moment which I think is ruining the lines a little.

This style is exactly what I wanted though, It should look like a 250 GP bike on the road. Once the rest of the TZ250 fairing is on it I reckon it'll look the nuts. Some angles don't do the TZ seat unit any favours but I'm no photographer.

From the outset this was never gonna be another mito with an engine swap, seen it all before - yawn!

Engine is nearly built but I've had some infuriating setbacks along the way.

I was really looking forward to getting to this stage, but buying an engine in bits has made this more difficult,
... It's not the end of the world the fact that I didn't strip it, but it does make it harder to build something you didn't take apart... What has been a total cunt though is having boxes, and boxes and boxes of parts... Some very small but very significant parts missing.. Being on a roll then having to stop and order them, then start again. With the best will in the world I thought I had all bases covered but there's still been a few things that have stopped me in my tracks and I've ended up not enjoying this stage at all.

I'm looking forward to it being done though of course and not losing interest. It's just not gone as swimmingly as I hoped.

Case in point, tonight I came to torque up my primary drive and water pump drive gears on the end of the crank, easy... Then came to fit the inner clutch hub which on the face of it looked fine. Decided to look more closely and found a crack... So that's going in the bin and it's another wait and ££ until a new one arrives.

Last night a head stud snapped as I was fitting the head, even though they're spec'd at 20ftlb and I was creeping up on them 10, 15, 20, bang. Must have been a defective one, got it out the head ok but it's another fucking wait to get a new set as I'm not chancing any of them now.

It's not far off and the rest has gone very well. Selects all gears nice, all new bearings, bushes, crank, gear selector pistons, barrels, head, billet basket, straight cut gears etc etc etc all new. There's not much that's second hand.

Anyway, some pics.. Just miffed it's not finished but it's not far away

The whole look of the thing should come together once the fairings go on. It was never intended to be a TZ replica but I am going to use the full TZ250 5KE kit as I want it to look like a GP bike on the road.

Finally got the head studs, head is now all torqued down.

Clutch all fitted up, pancake clutch pusher mod and ceramic ball installed to eradicate seizing of the clutch push mechanism. Basically in a standard application there's no pancake bearing so the collar can't spin too well and the ball is steel and can gets that hot it effectively welds itself to the push rod.

TZ750 clutch springs and FZR1000 friction and steels too, should hold it!

https://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q53/yazza54/B58FD4DA-1EEC-4B51-89AF-EAFEB5B4FB67_zpswuyygudq.jpg

Next jobs, water pump and oil pump, clutch cover to fit. I've ordered a brand new stator to fit then my lightened flywheel can go on. Also ordering a domino throttle and cables etc. Time to pull my finger out.

Engine finished, Next jobs are mount the battery and oil tank.

Fitted water pump, oil pump and clutch cover, kickstart etc today... Had a go at kicking it, got some compression!! Also fitted the little brass oil injectors in the carbs... Not something I was looking forward to drilling a hole in a 150 quid carb but did both without any problems.

Once I've got the tank and battery sorted it'll be time to get the ignition done and run in. Fella off the RDLC forum is going to fit the ignitech ignition for me as he's done loads for customers then run it in on the dyno to be safe.

Need to get custom throttle cables made, waiting for my domino throttle to arrive.
