Heres the 1999 Hornet 600 that i have just brought. Its my first big bike and im loving it! It has a Stage 2 Dynojet kit fitted, Pippercross air filter, and a Renegade Exhaust. Can anyone give me a rough idea of where the bhp should be with these mods? Adjustable front forks have also been fitted, anyone recognize what bike they come from?
Thanks

By chance did you purchase this bike from Gosport?

Yeah - that polished swing arm looks like the school bike that was "a bit too frisky" from earlier in the week. Has taken little round sticker off side panels?

Looks like standard forks with a set of cartridge emulators.

I thought the Hornet ran cartridge forks anyway, just non-adjustable ones.

Nice bike but I'm not a fan of polished swing arms and wheels.

Yes i did buy this frisky little beast from Gosport! From the very nice people at Kickstart Rider Training, the bike was in even better shape then i could have hoped, and they even filled the tank for me.

So the jury is still out on the forks then? And approx bhp with mods?

I would have preferred the swingarm to be in original condition, but im not that fussed really. The only things im likely to change are the front indys for some leds, and new mirrors as the right hand one moves inwards. Oh and i need a new hose for the scottoiler as the chain has worn through. Anyone now if the are available separate? Or could i just get a length of tubing from a hardware store?

Oh you mean the boss? Gary and Ollie. I was off that day. Sad to see the bike go. I had a good ride over the hill with a student on the bike. Fantastic handling. You'll enjoy it.

Ollie is a member here, she rarely posts but I will show them how small a world it is.

Haha I recognise that little beauty! Damn Hornets don't half look good in blue. As it's a Kickstart bike it'll no doubt be in excellent shape, I know the post-2007 gold Hornet I did my MOD1 on was tip top, had new brake pads and discs fitted just before I trained on it I do believe (pinky will correct me if I'm wrong here).

No expert but as the standard pre-2007 Hornet has about 95BHP with the jetting it's gotta be well in excess of 100BHP by now, surely.

No, it won't be 100bhp. Thumbs Up

IIRC claimed by Honda was 95bhp as you say. So high 80's at the rear wheel. A couple of bhp from the air filter and race can. It's the snorkel that's the most limiting part of the intake anyway IIRC.

Are you missing the cover over the airbox intake for a reason?

Power wise, it'll be like a Hornet, but with some more noise.

Ah, still learning, sorry. Embarassed

I figured jetting it would add 10BHP or so, a modest but noteworthy gain.

BSD make a Hornet that made 95 bhp at the wheel IIRC with a CBR head, bigger carbs, full system, cams, and some airbox mods too.

https://bsd.uk.com/honda-hornet-cbr600-spec-upgrade/

Seems they're now tuning up Hornets using that know how.

Yes small world pinkyfloyd. I think its going to take a while to get used to the handling, as i have spent the last 3 years on a Yamaha DTR 125. But im enjoying learning Smile

Should it not be without the airbox cover then Paddy? It's how i got the bike

Forks look to be old CBR600 with possible chinky preload adjustable top caps? Hornet forks have cartridges all ready, but arent externally adjustable.

Probably makes a little more BHP than a stock bike.

Thanks DottyDuck, i paid £1200.

I have found the fork adjusters, they don't appear to be chinky..

Pinkyfloyd do you know if the airbox cover was ever there in the time Kickstart owned it?

Deffo missing the duct for the airbox!
Power wise it wont be making any more than 90-95 at the wheel.
A good mod that i have just done is to fit a smaller front sprocket.

Seems alright for 1,200 pounds. Well, the polished parts look stupid and I would definitely fit some folding pegs on it. It seems stupid, but I got hit by a folding peg a few times and I can imagine what would happen if the peg didn't fold and just break my leg. Smile

It was a couple of times when I was noob and once on the CB-1. Thumbs Up

PS: I would also fit OEM tail light and the plate holder.

Nice. So are they just the standard forks with those adjusters retrofitted? Or are they non-99-Hornet forks?

If they're standard forks then I may consider getting some when I come to do fork oil change.
