Had a brainwave as to how to get a later engagement on the clutch....use a 112mm clutch bell on a 107mm clutch. Shoes will then have to come out further in order to engage thus it'll rev higher and do some crazy wheelie things. It's also got some anti slip pattern on the inside & cooling fins to try and keep the clutch from cooking itsef (I glazed the shoes a few times trying to set the current transmission up)

I had good results with that PM tuning pipe on my Piaggio. It does ground out far too easy in corners though. Laughing

The only issue you may come across with the large clutch bell is that the shoes may not have as much contact surface area on the bell.

But, it might be fine.

Chopped a chunk of frame out to fit it and can only get one mounting bolt in, however...

It's very very loud. Had the oppertunity to race the local pedboi crew on road test. It was faster than the liquid cooled Zip & Aerox by miles. The lad on the SR50 was quicker off the mark, but I had him on top end...most fun I've had on this!

Clutch still engages too early. I need to find a clutch capable of a 8-9k engagement. I might experiment with cutting the shoes down more tomorrow, Paddy seems impressed however.

Update - The chinese wiring doesn't like the wet & shorts itself out in the rain causing issues with road testing. Rollers were too light so have switched to 4.3gr which seems to work better with this pipe. Oh, and the pipes blowing at the header which I suspect is causing a significant power drop - I'll have to fabricate a bracket more suited to this bike to get the best out of it.

Cracked it Laughing

Have ordered a Stage 6 Torque control clutch to solve the slip issues and to hopefully make it wheelie like a loon. Have also ordered a fuel tap from an AJS daytona as it appears to share the same style fitting and is a manual tap with a reserve setting which could be very useful. Hopefully it'll flow a little better too.

I think the jetting is slightly out...not by much mind, but I've not jetted it for the new pipe/filter yet which could be causing me to go a little flat on the top end....then againg it could be the vac tap thats causing fuel starvation issues.

How is the MPG now? That's what would put me off ever doing this as I justify a ped as uber cheap transport.

Around 10-15mins at a guess, engine runs at between 10,000rpm and 11,000rpm from the off mind. Handles it fine cause I built the bottom end up with top quality bits, but the pipe gets very very warm.

More than welcome to, I'll try and get it up to the BBQ if it doesn't put a rod through the crankcases before then. Laughing

Err...Unsure. Pretty poor I'd guess - I'll check tonight as I fully fuelled it up before going for the attempt. Can work out an exact MPG figure from the tracking data.

Fair play indeed!
This has been one of the best BCF show&tells for me for ages, if for no other reason than the fact everything was done in stages, tested and explained with lots of pics too! Nice work and 75mph kill's the best true speed I had on my SF100 by miles!

I bet the office workers in that building would love you if you pulled up there at 9am or left at 5pm nice and quietly with your un-obtrusive vehicle! Laughing

Have you put a stiffer contrast spring in it?( stiffer than the white one )

It might well be the belt slipping on the variator. I had the same problem on my Piaggio. Ended up with a stiffer spring in there and heavier rollers to help compress it.

75mph is good going though. Those PM tuning pipes are pretty good for high revving motors, its just a shame they stick out so far!

Shimmed it when I fitted the new clutch last night, however I'm ordering a 32kg spring in for thursday along with a variator outer pulley thats supposed to have a wider transmission operating range.

It does seem much better already, but the rollers now seem a little light. Cant see any point in setting it up though till such time as I've swapped the spring though.

Anyhow, clutch.

Got it out of the box, stripped it down, installed the optional hard springs & fitted a weight into the clutch shoe to get a harder bite.

Whats nice about the Stage 6 clutch is to adjust it I only have to remove one bolt and adjust a few allen keys to tweak the bite point rather than removing the entire clutch from the torque driver!

The air scoops are designed to blow cold air over the clutch stopping it from cooking up and glazing. The bell did get real hot when I was setting it up, but the clutch itself stayed nice and cool so it does appear to work. I do wish I'd opted for this clutch straight away as it really is worth paying more than double the price of the Motoforce clutch for - I suspect the Motoforce would do just fine on a less tuned motor mind. If you ran the Motoforce clutch with just the Leo Vince pipe then it'd probbably make for a very nice scoot to ride to be fair as the 6k launch does get rid of all the greif pulling away on hills and such.


I may remove the weights from the clutch and see what happens, however with a tug on the bars it will wheelie from stationary.

My technique is lacking somewhat, moar practice needed Laughing

Something has broken. Re-jet allowed the engine to spin up off the end of the clocks, it lost power and as I throttled back it died completely.

Suspecting deaded top end as it spins over fine with no major resistance, and wont fire. Hoping its a plug issue but I doubt I'm that lucky!

I'm amazed at the amount of abuse it took to be fair. It was off the end of the rev counter for at least two miles absolutely flat out. Does sound like an excuse to give that nutty Stage 6 top end a go thats claiming 17-19hp a go mind.

Okay, recovered it.

Pulled plug. Oily and wet..interesting.

Cleaned it, kicked it over and its sparking but still not firing.

Fine. Exhaust off, flashlight up the exhaust port. No ring blowby, no damage to the piston and no damage to the bore. Very strange.

Compression test. 135psi, a rebuilt RS125 manages about 125psi so thats very good compression. Top ends fine.

Gotta be a fuelling issue then. Pulled line off, sucked on vac line and the tap is flowing correctly. Carb issue perhaps? Opened the float bowl drain and found it entirely full of oil. The carb was full of oil?! Put it back together...tons of smoke, coughing and spluttering later and it's running!

Swapped torque spring, rollers, put a new variator half pulley on with a wider range, and ran it up to 69mph in the Medway tunnel...a 2mph gain on my personal best through there. Think it's alive again!

The oil either diddnt mix correctly after I filled up, or reacted and seperated...then sunk. Standard Shell unleaded, Castrol A747 oil. I've never ever had an issue with that combination ever - or that fuel station.

Honestly, 100% oil came out of the carb. The float bowl was full of it, never seen anything like it Confused

I've had to make myself resist another Ped poi phase and the F125 is the one scoot that would pull me back in like cheap crack cocaine!

I looked into getting a new one in that nice almost Kawasaki colour metallic blue in 2001, but cheaped out at the last min on a deal on Pug Speedshite instead! Sick

You can get nice spannies for the F125 now that you couldn't back then, and a bigger or twin carb conversion. Either way say 16-17bhp would be plenty for the lols!

Sun came out, so went for a ride to get brekfast.

The Chaly has a 140cc pitbike engine in it and a gigantic carburettor, so returns about the same MPG figures as the ped. Accelleration he's got me - however top speed I was around 5mph faster despite some horrific fuelling issues.

Then there was a crash following a really shit wheelie by myself, and Tom deciding to flip the Chaly right next to me trying to show me how it was done Laughing

Ended up at another mates house, collected him and went to the pub. Bit of an odd selection of bikes!

Have suddenly got another wave of enthusiasm for this...so spunked out some money on a Stage 6 reed block & manifold, a hand grenade cylinder with power claims of 17-19hp straight out of the box and a boost bottle.

The manifold will take adaptors to get a 30mm PWK carb on it in the future, and the cylinders about as good as I can get for this motor.

I just need to track down a used Yasuni C20 or Stage 6 R1200 exhaust...
