Id be more than happy with a real 48mph on the flat from a Chinq 50cc!
You might find a fraction more speed or acceleration with the aftermarket variator especially if it has a greater range of gearing than the std one has.
Getting clutch's to bite at high enough rev's seems to be a common problem. I found changing springs on the Speedfight made probably no more than 200-250rpm difference to engagement, where really I wanted another 1500rpm or so before moving away.
Those adjustable race clutches seem to be the way to go for this, and they don't rely on changing springs to set them up for different engagement speeds AFAIK. |

If its any good, I think I still have a race clutch left over from the NRG build. Itll fit the Chinky motor and weighs about half of the standard one. It is set to engage at fairly high RPM mind! ____________________ Suzuki GT250 x7------- Fazer 600------CB250RS------Aprilia Rally 70----- Bandit 600

Well it would seem the breaking point of the chinese transmission is around where we're at now. However Evoboy has a clutch, and I've picked up a fancy variator so with both of those fitted we ought to be onto a winner! With scooter tuning you seem to replace every component bar the crankcases anyway, so I figure it ought to be nearly as quick & just as reliable as every other tuned scoot out there after the motors finished. At the moment it holds about 7500-8000rpm once you're moving, and flat out spins to about 10500rpm which on the top speed attempt pictured meant holding it at that sort of speed for well over a minuite. With no gearup kits availible and the variator unlikely to make a massive difference in final drive ratio it's going to have to be able to hold masses of revs for a sustained period. If it fails, that'll be when - I'm sure of it.
Will post lolpics when it does throw the conrod
evoboy wrote: | If it is, it will be a far better base for tuning. |
Apparently ditching the fan on an air cooled motor is good for 1-2hp on a tuned engine, however it'll kersplode if run for any length of time. But it does prove how much more efficient water cooling is!
Edit: Also, worth noting at this stage I feel is the fuel consumption. It guzzles it like it's going out of fashion. My KTM uses less fuel when ridden hard. It's used nearly an entire tank of fuel (£5.20) in around thirty miles, (although this is with an 18st rider, headwinds & huge uphills) I'll be installing a 2nd tank in the helmet storage that doesn't actually fit a helmet. When fitted with a huge carb it's just going to make the MPG worse, currently I suspect the main is somewhere in the 54-60 range. When fitted with a 70cc kit, 21mm carb and sports pipe most of the local lads seem to be running 100-115 mains
Edit 2.0: Just another sudden thought - With the big variator conversion, do I want it to be running 3.5 with the new variator/torque spring (Doppler supply one) or do I need to be heavier, lighter or what? Rollers were bang on before at 3.5gr 15x12, Doppler variator converts it to 19x15.5 ____________________ Please be aware that the above post may be full of complete nonsense.

Its dead.
One of the mains shat itself in a big way at about 35mph on road test. It still ran enough to get it home...was nearly there anyways as it felt rough as anything from the moment I hit full throttle.

Oh well, race crank & 70cc top end time. Will pull the engine tomorrow & relocate it in the kitchen ____________________ Please be aware that the above post may be full of complete nonsense.

The Athena HP Kit is very good for the money. The HPR is probably too much for that bike. I raced the NRG against pitbikes and it was pretty pointless as it just pulled big power wheelies everytime you got on the throttle. ( If you let go of the throttle, the gearbox 'gears down' so as soon as you get back on it, your in a lower gear and the front is back up in the air )
But I thought the HP kit was also single ring piston, just with less aggressive porting? Also make sure you read the instructions on setting the 'squish clearance' exactly as it is vital its done correctly. Also it would definatly be worth matching the ports on the crankcases to the ports on the cylinder.
I ran one of these cranks in the NRG.
https://www.adrenalin-pedstop.co.uk/p-SLine_Evolution_crankshaft_for_Yamaha_Aerox_50_Jog_R_Neos_2t-6281.aspx
For the money I was very impressed with the quality.
I do also still have an Italkit Seletretta Inner rotor ignition kit which made the engine rev up like a motocross bike. But the backplate is for a Piaggio LC engine. ____________________ Suzuki GT250 x7------- Fazer 600------CB250RS------Aprilia Rally 70----- Bandit 600
