It is indeed me Mr Putin. Laughing

Thread will indeed continue, hopefully my normal account will be re-activated once Stinkwheel reads the rules he's supposed to be there to enforce & stops making them up as he goes along.

Did your post about excessive moderation just get excessively moderated down, or did you do that out of choice?

Think it's about time to get this running again. Warmer weather is on its way & I need time to setup & jet this thing for Mayday.

Ought to be here tomorrow.

Gone for the milder Athena HP kit. It's cheaper, and more suited to the pipe I currently have, it should also be a bit more reliable.

Have also gone for a cheaper crankshaft from CPH rather than the Doppler item I'd planned on. Its still a full mass crank, and should offer better performance however I doubt it will be as strong....but with a less peaky top end on it and a TT pipe I can't see it regularily hitting 18,000rpm.

Will be running factory carb to start off with, possibly with an open filter if I can be arsed to figure out the jetting, these things can be a massive pain in the dick to setup on sponge filters. Bike will be premix only as I'm ditching the oil pump to reduce drag on the crank.

Ho hum. Soon.

+1! Good to hear the beast will live on again, it looked in decent condition and you brought it for next to nothing so it makes sense to get her back on the road.Thumbs Up

Is that kit a 50 or 70cc top end?

The HP kit is near on the same as the HPR but with less aggressive porting. Its still single ring so will have around the same service life as the HPR.

The CPH crank will be fine. I had one of Pedstops own brand 'Sticky parts' ones in mine. It stood up to the stupidly high revs no problem. Laughing

Stock carb will kill it. A 17.5mm or a 19mm would improve it greatly, junking the airbox is also a must. It'll only become difficult to jet when you stick bigger than a 21mm on it.

you may have better luck with the stock 125 carbs, its a 20.5 cheap as chips because everyone runs a 25/28 with their 125 and pretty simple to set up!
i always found the sponge filters a little shit you can mod the stock box to be able to breath fairly well and malossi do a filter for the stock box plus they have the benefit of coping with the dirt and weather of england should also be plentful

Crankcases split and cleaned

https://i.imgur.com/qbW8Uqu.jpg

Made a plate to blank the oil pump off as this will be going premix.

https://i.imgur.com/7WK0koO.jpg

And a dead crankshaft.

https://i.imgur.com/vI7xrRk.jpg

HP kit has slightly less agressive porting, whilst it is single ring its also lower compression hence predicting a slightly longer service life. Will pick up some spare rings/small ends/gasket sets then compression test it every 1500miles. Soon as it drops, fresh ring.

Will do the carb, but at a later date when I have more money! Unfourtunately living costs are high and wages low Sad

Started by marking how much to file out of the transfer ports.

https://i.imgur.com/hnXmn1a.jpg

Then hand filed the ports out to match the new top end.

(Just realised how bad the port looks in this picture - I just grabbed a few quick snaps as I was working & don't think this port was anywhere near finished at the time Laughing )

Test ride indicated the following;

Need to do more work on setup, the clutch is wank as is the carb. However it's pretty nippy - diddn't want to spin it up all the way on a fresh motor Laughing

Put some miles on the motor.

Seems I have a range of around 15miles on a tank of fuel as it ran out. Will have to install a 2nd tank.

https://i.imgur.com/PJ1Yc9z.jpg

Kickstart doesnt work, also having hot start issues - new carb will have manual choke. I suspect the auto choke is confused by the lack of airbox and freezing temps. Need to have a look at the plug and see what the jettings up to, its very close but not 100%

Still,

Only need to find another 8mph Thinking

Iain, are you at 70cc now? otherwise I'm never gonna believe those healthy speeds your reaching now? Laughing

I know Evoboy and other's that know their 50cc tuning have commented on the quality and design of the Chinese engines, being quite a long way behind the Piaggio motors, but I am fairly impressed with the inlet port, and reed valve area, and the short straight manifold it has too.

The 50 and 100cc Honda/Peugeot engines have in comparison a tiny inlet port into the crank case, and a nasty restrictive manifold with a tiny 2petal reed block.

If you get that thing to a real 68mph on the flat, that's all my 11.8bhp 100cc SF2 was doing, so it's not far away as it is! Thumbs Up

Not bad considering its still freshly built.

I still have that clutch here if your still interested in it.

Itll go much better with a larger carb. The tank range should improve too...

The chinese motors are just a copy of the Minarelli AC lump used in the Yamaha range ( Early aerox and neos ). Its just the bearings and gearbox components are much cheaper made.

Whats it revving too?

Yup, current mad powah mods are;

CPH full circle race crankshaft
Athena main bearings/seals
Athena HP 70cc barrel, piston and head
Athena carbon fiber reeds
OEM reed block with modified stops.
Leo Vince TT exhaust
Doppler big roller variator conversion
19x15.5 4gr Doppler rollers
Doppler torque spring
Leo Vince clutch springs
Pedmoto air filter
Carburettor re-jetted
Crankcases port matched to cylinder
Oil pump removed & blanked off
Naraku drive belt
NGK BPR8HS plug
NGK plug cap

Clutch engages at 3.5-4k, engine makes no power till around 8k, and seems to pull through to around 10k. Variator holds it nice and steady at 9.5k...might try dropping a gram on the rollers and seeing what happens once its run in a bit. Carbs strangling it IMO as it does feel as if it's holding back, but it's definately jetted correctly.

Totally forgot about that clutch if I'm honest! What sort of revs does it engage at?

Iain. wrote:

Felt like about 6-7k but it is adjustable.

It was on my old NEOS but was quite useless as the cheapo 70cc cylinder kit didnt make power above around 6k. Laughing But even that would manage 60mph on the flat with 18st on it! I did put a 19mm carb on it though.

It will feel jetted correctly, but will struggle to rev much above 9k as the small carb will choke it. The HPR kit on my old NRG ran at 14k with a 21mm carb, clutch would engage at 9k purely to stop it flipping off the start line. Power wheelies on scooters are fun. Laughing

I wouldnt bother dropping the roller weight unless you get a larger carb. Itll be even worse on fuel Laughing

See that's what I'm looking for.

A 9k clutch dump would be hillarious as it'd likely just lift the front end. Reckon it's worth splashing the extra on a PWK carb?

Carb itself will cost me the same monies, the 35mm inlet manifold however will cost many ponds. Shame PM tuning are out of their carb kits...they're an absolute bargain.

The issue with the std carb being restrictive is an interesting one, and I can see Evoboy's point and reasoning why a good kit is held back by a small carb.

I know it's a different motor and probably different situation altogether, but I did not really think the 21mm carb conversion on my SF100 was worth the hassle it caused with jetting/filters and bogging down. The mods on my 100cc that really worked were:
1, exhaust
2, bit of porting to the std iron barrel
3, More compression. (This mod made more difference than any of the others at lower speed)

based on my limited 2stroke tuning experience I would always look for more compression as an early mod, as in this case I felt the improvement straight away. But then again it melted the piston 100miles later. Laughing
