Could the CB250rs be my ideal tiddler tourer?

It certainly could, I've run one for thirteen years as a 'hack' bike including doing a rally in Cornwall from home in the Midlands and holding a constant 70 on the return trip. Great little bikes as long as you keep clean oil in 'em.

I best make a note to buy every cb250rs that pops up for sale then! Might just drive the price up. Laughing

Shocks have arrived.

I've had to junk the TZR MC as it leaks like a sieve so one off a cbr600 has been used. Feels much better at the lever.

Clutch is cabled up and working, yet to test to see how bad the plates are. All within spec, but you never know....

More updates to come in the week....

Also found an old velocity stack in the heap of spares, fitted perfectly! Unsure if it will stay yet though....

nice to see a 250rs getting some love, I regret getting rid of mine now, i hindsight it was a fantastic bit of kit.

BTW tzr125 clipons fit directly IIRC, just cut a bit of handlebar to cover the gap inbetween the standard bar clamps if your using the stock headlight/clock mount otherwise it will jump out first time you hit a speedbump, dont ask me how I know Laughing

Cheers
John

Trial fitting the exhaust.

Its off a 90's Blade and has some damage to the flange side, but it needs cutting in half anyway as its massive and will scrape the track before the footpegs do!

Ill be using the old motad collector to link it all together and will have a 3 bolt flange adapter made to be welded onto the downpipes once everything is aligned correctly. Lots of trial fitting and marking!

https://s27.postimg.org/4vi8x1tcj/exhaust.jpg

Also found an old race seat unit that looks to be off a TZ of some sort. So i may try to make that fit it.

Tank has been blasted. Need to clean the inside next.

Seat has been trimmed to fit. This will be the rough position of it once bolted to the bike.

Not sure if to run a dustbin style fairing on the front or just have a number board....

https://s12.postimg.org/8vr9wkat9/rearsets_brake.jpg

Mocked up the rear sets. Brake side is just a standard brake lever cut in half and flipped. Was a bit of a pig getting it set right with my size 14 boots but its in a comfy position. More for show than anything as the drum will be fairly useless on track anyway! Laughing

Just needs a proper spacer machining instead of the 2 random ones, just cos its a bit neater.

https://s22.postimg.org/ql4ns8cpd/rearsets_gear.jpg

Gear side I used a zx6 gear lever. Its a cheapo jobby and itll probably bend, but it was cheap for now till a proper one can be sourced. Made a bush for the gear lever to run on. Works a treat. Just need to sort out a linkage tie rod and rose joint and that will be done.

https://s15.postimg.org/vdcyj8gtn/frame_brace.jpg

As the stock mudguard wont be used, there is nothing to stop the frame flexing so a spacer/brace was made to fit the gap left. The threaded bar is left long as the seat unit will bolt to it.

Had an exhaust flange and some gaskets made.

https://s29.postimg.org/ip9g5khh3/Exhaust_Flange.jpg

Rough position of the exhaust, just waiting for the adapter to be made.

https://s29.postimg.org/xb0gtte9j/short_exhaust_2.jpg

Also added some tart..... They were actually cheaper than standard levers. Laughing

The wiring is nearly all done and it has spark. Just 4 wires needed and no battery, simplicity at its best. Just need to wire in a killswitch and that can be crossed off the list.

Very nice. I've fancied one of these for a while now.

I have to say, I don't think the seat unit looks quite right on that bike. It looks a bit out of proportion to me...

If you're tall I don't think that seat unit will be long enough.

Also, numberboard over dustbin fairing.

You could mount the seat a bit further back...

As expat has said.

That was just the initial position of the seat. There is still ALOT of setup to do in that area. The seat has been moved back a good 2 inches so far and its as close as its going to get without actually riding the bike.

I'm 6'4 so never going to fit it well. Laughing

Itll probably get trashed quite quickly and ill end up looking for another anyway. It was free, who cares.

Gear linkage rod was made today so I can get that back together after work tomorrow.

I'm just waiting to get an exhaust made up for it.

Ive given up with the Motad downpipes as everytime they get welded, another hole appears. So I think it would be best to just get a stainless system welded up.

It does run though!

The TZR throttle is a VERY short throw. (A bit less than 1/4 turn Laughing )

It will still need the carb setting up for the bellmouth, but it does hold an idle.
