So we're fiddling with this Kymco Pulsar I got for fifty nicker and
have the engine indoors in bits cleaning and checking it all and
I've just been playing with the sprocket.

The output shaft splines look very good and I cant see much wear on the
inner sprocket splines but what I don't know is how much play is OK or normal
between a shaft and sprocket?
The pic shows the output shaft and a line drawn with a marker pen at about 12 o clock
going up on to the case.

Without moving the shaft I can rock the sprocket from the'12 o clock' line
on the case to the one just to its left.
(In fact, you can see the gap on the shaft)

Hmm, dunno, is this good? bad? indifferent?

Had shafty for years but recall seeing many a chewed spline and this one doesn't
look bad at all but I'd kinda liked it to be a bit less sloppy

Opinions please?
and NO ! I aint feckin weldin it ! Laughing

Question 2
While the lad was outside tinkering and cleaning stuff up I had a play with the rear sprocket.
I know these things have rubber cush drive and we'll take it apart soon for a close look but how much if any play is normal on a rear sprocket?
I noticed I could rock it few degress forward and back and there also seemed to be a bit of axial play which allowed me to pull and push it
along the axle.
As said, it will be removed and examined closely in time just wondering

The gaps in the spline teeth between the sprocket and the shaft make me think it's probably the wrong sprocket.

For the £10 it's likely to cost, get a new sprocket?

Does Kymco use redesigned engines/parts from a larger manufacturer? Perhaps the engine is a cheap Kymco re-design and the sprocket is for the Yamazukonda engine that the Kymco is redesigned from?

Right
A bit more clued up on victorian machinery now
( I mean, chains?, seriously? how quaint)

Anyroadup, cleaning me glasses and using the verniers plus
RTFM, further research and all, shows the Kymco uses a 5mm spline
while this sprocket has a 4mm spline and could have been intended for a Cg125 type thing.
No harm done to the shaft luckily, no welding needed.
Correct sprocket on todo list.
Cheers all

If those numbers on the sprocket read 1327 then someone has beefed up the chain - the spline spacings are the same as Roger's links but meant for a 520 chain not a 428.

hi,
sorry or jumping in, but if that sprocket is a JT Sprockets part no. 327 with 14 teeth (which it looks like, but im on my phone so pic isnt too good) & its in decent condition, i'd be willing to take it off your hands cos i just happen to need one..
willing to pay incl. postage. save you being stuck with it.

BUT, if its JTF 1327, then it might not be suitable for me. the measurements are very close...it might not line up or be too loose....Thinking

i know they are not expensive new but a bargains a bargain Very Happy

back to original topic, its easy to see why someone would try using this, seeing as some kymco's use the 5mm (for which this sprocket is intended for) & others use the 4mm.
its always worth checking the JT catalogue https://www.jtsprockets.com/catalogue

cheers,

Silly question; But have you tried putting the sprocket retaining clip on and screwing it to the sprocket?

https://images.cmsnl.com/img/partslists/honda-cg125-1993-singapore-transmission_bigeccsp81e__1200_71d2.gif

Parts 15 & 26.. could make a sigficant difference.

I assumed they'd been removed by OP whilst working in said area and that play was evident before he removed them, otherwise they'll definitely make a difference - like preventing the sprocket working it's way off the shaft!!!

Looks like it says 1627 which would be an XT660 Neutral

It has 15 - 1527 stamped on it and one of the other stampings looks like JT too so it probably is a JT.
Dunno what the 1527 means.

Yes the locking clamp thing works, the bike was complete when we got it but a non runner.
AFAIK it was in regular use but suddenly stopped, got fiddled with,
the PO gave up on it then stowed it away for 2 years
Its breaking down probably saved the output shaft from abuse.
Its a 2009 with 15000KM on the clocks and so far looks quite saveable.
We'll probably do the whole schmeer with a new sprocket and chain set when we get to that stage.
Just passing the strip, clean, assess, price parts, stage
and have a local source for Kymco parts which seem reasonably priced.

Also the lad just cleaned up the chain and we found it has two locking clip things which suggests its non standard and someone's
been 'improving' it in the past.
