Table leg and fixing arrived. Going to whack a 2.5" hole in the floor and get it fitted.

Also started making up a bracket for the TV screen to hang from the ceiling. I've looked at purpose built 'flip down' 12v TVs, but for anything as big as the one I have (17" widescreen) is like £250+. For something I will probably never watch!

Table is a bit wobbly, I need to drill right through and nut/bolt the floor plate down to the steel floor under the wood. At the moment it's just screwed down with wood-screws.

Sink is small, but it'll do. 200mm dia. Enough to rinse a few mugs out in, and have a piss down on those long (no stopping) road trips. Laughing

Cheers. Razz

Tonight I took the exhaust system off. Smashed the guts out of the cat, and then started to look at making up a side-pipe system, with a small silencer inline to keep it reasonably quiet.

It revs up SOOO much more freely now without a cat fitted, and you can hear the turbo spooling up under load. Can't wait to get the huge FMIC fitted and have it mapped. Turbo-Van! Laughing

Got some lengths of flexible LED strip to downlight around the cupboards and under the seats.

Pulled the rear bumper off today to clean up any possible rust and treat it, before fitting the rear arches and body kit, as once that goes on, the bumpers can't really come back off.
Was pleasantly surprised at how clean the rear valance area was. Smile

Cleaned it back, and sealed. Bumpers back on, and then started to get the rear arches trimmed up and bonded on.

Still in two minds whether to paint the van blue again, and keep the arches black, with black bumpers, and blue bodykit (Like the SportVan).
Or to just code the entire van blue...

I'd vote to match everything blue with the bodywork/bumpers and kit. Unless your doing a lot of motorway miles, and or humping bikes in and out a lot and need the practicality of unpainted black plastics.

Out of interest what underseal do you use on it? I need to do my Rover this year, and am unsure if I should underseal it myself with a diy kit or not?

Looks good and looks like it will end up really, really nice but, my god, those wheels are an acquired taste!

A nice set of multi-spokes would set it off nicely, IMO.

And started bonding arch number-3 in place:

https://scontent-lhr.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xfp1/v/t1.0-9/11150673_10153288180800606_2679789823070318381_n.jpg?oh=80382f28e228625b5e0bb88d1ff4afcc&oe=55E4C338

I opted for this style wheel because of the weight of the van, plus it hides the brakes very well.

Multi-spoke type wheels can't take the 800kg per corner that these ones can.

Ref the colour. I'm drawn towards a full colour code too (Not door handles or door trim though, only bumpers and arches).

Gonna order my side skirts tonight, and bumper corners from the ST.

And regarding the underseal. I use/used my Schutz gun with the tins. Wicked stuff, and because it's running at like 100psi+, it kinda acts like a shot blaster at the same time.

Arches are proving to be a cunt!

Tigerseal, Sikaflex, whatever I stick them on with, seems to be peeling back off where the arch is under tension. Rolling Eyes

Wings are fucked underneath now too, so I can't even take them back off. Wank Stain!

I'm now at the point where I am ready to bang stainless countersunk screws through the arch and into the body work, then fiberglass/filler over the top of them.

Having black arches/bumpers, and blue bodywork is out the window if that is the case. Wont get a nice line around the arch if it's 'smoothed in' ( Fuck I hate that term! ).

Gonna spend a few hours on it tomorrow, see how it goes.

Last resort is to just get them on, and roller paint the whole van. Euro-Rat style! Cheap and covers up ALL imperfections!

Spent most of today sorting the arches out on the front end.
Van is ready for paint now (I think)...

Looking into painting methods. I'm tempted to just run it into a body shop and pay the man the money, to have a proper job of it.

Can get it in cellulose, and roller it on...

Yes.

Also, cellulose takes forever to dry (I'm talking weeks or months, depending on how thick you put it on) so if you don't like it or want to flat it back, you'll be needing to leave it a loooooooong time, otherwise you get through the top skin and reveal soup underneath.

On the other hand, if you get it painted properly, you can save a lot of money by doing your own prep, but it needs to be spot on if you want the top coat to look good.

Personally, I think you've put a lot of effort into it so far, put it bit more in and prep it, then get someone to shoot the colour.

If you want to save a bit more dough, I recommend using another dark blue and getting the painter to soft edge mask the panel gaps, so the outer colour fades into the original in the shuts - that way, you don't have to spend a load of time prepping all the nadgery bits you only see when you open the doors and the colour change is slightly less obvious.

My recommendation would be Ford Imperial Blue - it's one of the colours they used on Escort Cossies and it looks bloody spectacular on vans (I've done a few now, everyone who saw the first one wanted theirs done).

My issue is the Metallic part (From what I can gather).

Gloss colours can go on in just top coat. Correct? (Or have I been lied to?)

Metallic needs to be colour and clear coat? Where the money really comes into it?

What is a ball park figure of a blow over in a blue (Gloss, not metallic), if I was to prep the entire van myself. I'm not overly fussed about every last dent and ding as it'll only get twatted when parked up places.

My other issue is the roof. It's a bit of a mess.

Your information is correct, non metallic direct gloss shines straight from the gun, metallics need a clear coat.

Metallics are a bit more expensive, obviously you're using more materials, but lacquer isn't quite as expensive as colour and they are a bit more hard wearing, simply because you've got another layer of material to get through.

Cost wise, paint varies wildly in price and to some extent you'll be tied to what your chosen painter likes to shoot, but £3-400 should cover it, plus what ever the painter wants for his trouble.

So £300 - £400 for paints etc?

And then what would a painter charge? I know none...

The only one I know your way is Pete at Mechspray in Rochester - you'll have a coronary if you ask him to do it, but he might be able to recommend someone a bit less pricey (his thing is award winning high end customs and restos, plus a neat sideline in doing stuff for films and F1 teams).

In two minds whether to just get it wrapped.

Had a day off work today, one of the lads ran my van out this morning. Got a phone call at 6pm (Closing time) saying they cant get it started so it'll have to stay outside.
I shot over in my white Transit to have a look. Seems like the starter motor is fecked. Not sure how.
Tow started it, and drove it home. It's on the drive now, will have to investigate on Monday.

Hopefully the neighbors don't get too offended by it.
