OK, quiet in work at the moment, all the kids on GCSE countdown, so bits of free time to play.

Currently the Go-Pro is bar end mounted and whilst it is not impeeding my control of the bike, I am consious of the slight imbalance in the steering, besides, it takes in a view of my knuckle guard at the mo.

Decided to see if I could find some way to mount it behind the screen of the V-Strom for the follwign reasons :-

Extra Protection
Central mount for balance
Central view for better coverage.

Was thinking of a couple of hours in the engineering workshop and seeing what I could bodge together with some scrap aluminium, but then I remembered I have access to a nice LASER cutter in DT, do a simple design on 2D Design and I have come up with this:-

https://i823.photobucket.com/albums/zz157/mikeallen3lly3900/cam%20mount_zpst5n2hxez.jpg

Holes to fit behind the screen mount holes and attach that way, dotted lines are where heat to bend to shape, additional holed spacers to even up the screen from bottom mounts.

Will see how it turns out an post results

Make sure your screen is clean Smile

Also, you probably wont just get wind noise for audio, which is a bonus.

Damn, I knew that solid black screen was a bad idea Smile

Hadn't even thought of the wind noise issue, good call Smile

Need to strip bend it now and will be ready to fit

That looks great. Will there be much vibration through that do you think? Looking forward to seeing the finished project.

The 3mm is flexible enough to absorb any bumps, but stiff enough to not wobble.

Going to use thin silicon washers between bike & mount, mount & screen to minimise any excessive shake as well.

Just realised.

White bike.
Showing blue in the front
Me in High Viz jacket

Could be interestingly deceptive Smile

TBH, in my mind the lower bend was going to be more acute, so the Go-Pro text would have been more horizontal and as such the right way up to the rider.

As it happens, more vertical, so upside down to the front.

Oh well, no biggy

OK, so on first fit, found it needed a slight but important bend on each end to accommodate the curve of the dash, so back to the strip heater and this is the result.

https://i823.photobucket.com/albums/zz157/mikeallen3lly3900/IMAG1022_zpsmtwarl3a.jpg

Like I said, slight, but important.

Finally, fitment.

https://i823.photobucket.com/albums/zz157/mikeallen3lly3900/IMAG1023_zpsqmdk7hds.jpg

Slightly longer bolts needed to be used as the standard ones are long enough for the screen and that is it, so 5mm longer ones and boom, we are in

https://i823.photobucket.com/albums/zz157/mikeallen3lly3900/IMAG1024_zpsfpytc0yf.jpg

Jest need to mount the Go-Pro now and will be sorted.

Go-Pro mount now stuck on

https://i823.photobucket.com/albums/zz157/mikeallen3lly3900/IMAG1026_zpshwr9ql36.jpg

Note the unique engineering solution to prevent unwanted wobble (folded spring onion labels).
Will make good tomorrow with foam pad to make it better.

Camera mounted

https://i823.photobucket.com/albums/zz157/mikeallen3lly3900/IMAG1028_zpspfjsgmdt.jpg

Will upload some footage of how it performs and post link in a bit.

Got the full door on at the mo as it was exposed totally, but with the protection of the screen, may swap for the sound enhancements of the one with the hole.

Good job really, you'd have heard me singing John Denver otherwise

Apparently a good way to block out excess wind noise with the open/skeleton door is to put a strip of electrical tape over the microphone.

Reduces the buffeting noise but still allows other sounds to get recorded.

I did try the lazy option of leaving the door open and see how that worked.

Not a good result.

The video was still stable, but all you hear on the audio is rattle, rattle, rattle from the door flapping and the securing clip bouncing around.

Will see about finding and fitting the proper solution and see how we go from there

Finally got around to uploading the footage of the camera with the open back to allow better sound.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SUdztB9OGw&feature=youtu.be

Not much to hear apart from the fact that there is very little wind noise.

Very happy with the effort Smile
