morning all,
on Monday, i took a trip out to see T0MMY of this parish, to do a deal on a 99 ZX6R. it was advertised as having starting issues, and being a little cosmetically challenged, unsurprisingly, as it has been sat for some time due to other commitments.
anyway, a deal was done, not many ponds were exchanged, and the bike was loaded up on the trailer

yesterday i had to work, so i couldn't really do much until the evening, when i set to work to see what the deal was.
i hooked up the battery, and turned on the ignition. Happy days, we have lights!
on pressing the starter, just a click was heard, and nothing more. i cycled the kill switch a few times, worked the clutch lever, moved the side stand up and down. *click*
next stop, smack the starter motor.
*vroom*
happy days!
the only other time i had left was taken up with a quick clean, just to see what is what. she doesn't scrub up tooooo badly:

Looks like a mega result. Looks really good!
And you got it started by whacking the starter motor, brilliant |

Chain's slack, sub frame's bent and it should be in Kawasaki racing green!
Looks good for not many ponds, is it for the road or track? ____________________ "Everybody needs money, that's why they call it money!" |

hmmm, weirdo alert lol
anyway, my abba stand came back from a mates house yesterday, so I attempted to use the R6 adaptors to lift the ZX6R... strangely, if you flip the stand the other way, they fit fine
I wanted to take a closer look at the rear end, as the chain looked very slack. that'll be because the sprocket carrier bearing is totally fucked
after chatting with MattB, the decision has been made to replace all of the wheel bearings while I'm at it.
new list so far:
1. sort out nosecone
2. replace all wheel bearings
3. sprocket carrier bearing
4. sort out brakes
5. full service
6. chain and sprockets
7. swap the rear tyre for spare I have
not too much is going to happen before my euro trip in july, but i'll update here as things happen.

Good choice of bike but then I would say that.
I would second the advice to replace the crappy 6 pots with a set of nissin 4 pots. Suzuki Bandit 1200 mk1 are a straight swap. Makes a huge difference to the feel of the front brakes.
Mine is same year and colour

Why bother to do the paintwork if you're tracking it? Rip all the clunky road craft off it and slimline that beehatch.
And you WILL need the rear brake on track once you get into it more and more.
Looking good though dude. They are cracking trackbikes. ____________________ Current bike - GSX-R1000 k8 |

I had a bit of time yesterday, so i managed to start to take a look at this again.
I have already procured a set of fork seals and dust covers, a replacement rear sprocket carrier, some crash bungs and some replacement fairing bolts. the idea was to replace the sprocket carrier, but carry on using the existing chain and sprockets until it has an MOT.
with that in mind, i started cleaning the chain... and found several missing rollers so i have ordered a DID X ring chain and JT sprockets. i wont bother doing anything else until they turn up, as i am already tight on time.
in other news, I managed to get hold of a pair of good condition Triumph branded Nissin 4 pot calipers for the front, so they will be changed too.
on that note, i presume i just order pads for that particular bike? and they will be fine?
cheers, hopefully something more interesting to update next time!

Definitely go way OTT on the details and cosmetics. It'll be a right looker when done, and IMO these are the best/classiest do it all 600 that the 90's ever produced.
Im one of those weirdos that loved my 6pot tokico brakes, and despite the possible performance advantage, I'd never (on paper) down grade to 4pot calipers, when I could have 6, and more pub bragging rights. |
