Personally I would write the ad at over £1k and with offers close to, unless your listing on ebay with no buy it now.

I suppose a few spins on it won't dissuade you from wanting it gone like yesterday (at the right price of course) Laughing
You'd probably get a smoother time of it at home, and a more reliable cold beer waitress service with one less machine around, and you can say look I told you so, it was a cheap project to buy/fix/sell on with muchos profit too! Thumbs Up

I hadn't ridden a bike on the road since 2008 when I got the KMX125 in late 2013, but spare a thought for my poor old KMX200 that hasn't smoked into life for nearly 10years now! Shocked I've been planning the re-build most of the time since, along with all the other projects in my head that have come and gone!

I don't go a week without thinking about sorting out my car, and what bits I want for it, and how it's going to look a million dollars when it's had beauty treatment in a bodyshop for a few weeks, or how loud my silly HKS SSQV is going to sound with the new roller bearing snail and a shitload of boost pressure. Wink

Actually I need Adam's GPZ550 and the rucksack full of pot noodles, so I can get away for good and start a new life with some new hobbies and leave all the unfinished stuff behind forever and be free too! Laughing

Is it hard to learn windsurfing or kayaking? Laughing

Although in some ways it should be worth a grand or more, I just doubt I'd get it. If it was a minted RS50 or Mito 50 then maybe but not many people are looking for a really tidy RS2, I don't think they have any kind of following really, just another geared ped for getting thrashed..... although if I put 'like RS50, Mito etc' in the ad' title it might help Laughing

Anyway we will see, thoughts at the moment aren't really of selling it, just playing for a while and getting used to being back on the road Thumbs Up

As for smoother time at home - yeah it should ease things a bit with the missus when it finally goes but tbh I feel a massive weight has already been lifted now I've got 2 bikes as good as built rather than just parts everywhere! Just got a pile of Mito bits in the wood shed now (and ok yeah, the rest of the Mito under a tarp') but other than that I feel like I've got some space again Smile

If I do make a profit on the RS2 I'll not be telling the missus Tut Tut
She will have a list of reasons as long as my arm for why that money should belong to her or spent on bills or some shit! Neither me or the Mito would ever see a penny of it Laughing

Sparing a thought for your KMX200...... how much you want for it? Thinking

A rucksack of pot noodles and some kayaking lessons buy it? Laughing

Fitted the nose back on today.
Then went to get the screen on, the one that was fitted is cracked but I have a donor one on the other (half) nose I got with the bike

https://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a75/RS1Rebuild/DPP1557_zpssqidxnbr.jpg

Just gave that a polish up with some G3, could have spent ages removing all the fine scratches but don't have the time or inclination tbh and this will do!

https://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a75/RS1Rebuild/DPP1558_zps4m66aosx.jpg

Also realised I've missed a bit for painting! Evil or Very Mad

https://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a75/RS1Rebuild/DPP1555_zpsnloetdis.jpg

It's that v shaped thingy bit for the front of the side panels.
Not getting involved in painting that, it's pretty much hidden away and will soon be covered in crap anyway so that just gets polished up too

https://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a75/RS1Rebuild/DPP1556_zpsjsjaqgbu.jpg

And fitted, looks fine in black actually

https://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a75/RS1Rebuild/DPP1560_zpsmjihyiwf.jpg

Nose and screen fitted (I didn't order rain! Need to sort a bike cover for it now really)

https://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a75/RS1Rebuild/DPP1562_zps0vtgtqfv.jpg

Also, exhaust is no longer autolubing the rear tyre Very Happy Thumbs Up

That thing looks too good and spunky for a 16yr old to hack around on and pull wheelies outside the 6th form college etc.

Fuck me I'm almost saying the dreaded 'K' word myself now! Laughing
But it's only the thought of an epic ton chasing screaming Mito painted up in that colour with the gold or dark cherry/blackberry metallic wheels etc that forces me to think it's best left for someone else to ride and spill their bottle of polish or chainlube or other clear fluids all over! Laughing

Oh and yeah your right, it would be a crime to let your missus steal away your Mito's pampering money, in fact it would be down right cruel and heartless tbh!

I'd love a rucksack full of pot noodles and a Kayaking lesson or two, but can't see why anyone would want my old 1/2 in bits KMX anyway.

You can get a rough but running complete one for under £500 max, and though they are rarely worth £1000 or more even restored, it's a lot simpler to start with a complete bike as you know. The main thing I liked best about mine was it's 4owner history, two of which were father/son, and the big bunch of old MOT's, tax discs, and the PDI report I have for it from Knotts motorcycles.

I've lost plenty of the small bits over 10years, I gave the carb away for free, used the kickstart on my 125, and cannibalised it for spares for my 125 a bit anyway.

The only bits I really want from it are the 200cc engine, and possibly the forks and swingarm in case I ever upgrade/totally ruin the 125. I think the scored cylinder is wrecked due to mad home porting, and a 200cc top end would have been great to piece together for a mahoosive power boost for my 125, but I'll need another barrel or engine now, and you don't want to know how much 200cc engines fetch on ebay etc.

I've no idea genuinely when or if I'll get round to re-building the complete bike, though id like it as a rough green laner to tear up the countryside, corn fields and bridle paths on etc. Laughing

That old mans Rover needs some love and sooner tbh too. The polishing 125 is just about there apart from some go faster bits and trying to source a sexual segmented cone custom pipe that I can take to bed (erm I mean fit to the bike).

KMX200 might be a step too far, and like you I see new more tantalising things pulling me in on Ebay, like that TS125X I saw a few weeks ago, or a rare old Italian 125 trail/motard style thing.

Good luck with the Mot, and glad to see that your back tyre is not being lubed with Eau d' two smoke anymore too! Laughing

Oh yeah, and I just noticed in your Sig you have owned a 1988 KX500? Utter bastard! Laughing

I'd swap you as much rusty old Kawasaki trail bike parts, and two expensive ruck sacks full of pot noodles for one of them!

I'm butt hurt, I could have got a mint never raced 88 KX500 a few years ago at a dirtbike show for under £2500 and I didn't bite the blokes hand off. Sad

I really do need professional help or Adams GPZ550 right now! Laughing

Yeah the KX500 is not a bike I'll ever forget! Was only 17 when I had that, it was certainly quick but never as fast (with me riding it) as any of the 250s I had, I think I was a bit scared of it tbh. It was ridiculous on overrun... boom........ boom.......boom Laughing Laughing
Should even have some pics of it knocking about somewhere (the old fashioned type on real physical card stuff) ... should try and dig them out Thumbs Up

I sold it for.... £600 Confused Crying or Very sad

That was 20 years ago (again, WTF? where's my life gone??) though, could cry about every bike I've parted with since then for no money but 'no point in looking back' and all that Neutral

Was planning to paint the front mudguard tonight but have had a couple of minor set backs to sort.

Firstly, I've not been able to get hold of my local MOT place. Each time I've called it's either been engaged or rang out so I've not got the MOT booked for tomorrow as planned. Going to try calling there again tomorrow to see if I can get one for Friday but if no joy I'll have to start looking further afield.

Had my first sit on the bike since rebuilding it today and was just giving everything a general check over. Noticed that the rear brake lever is sitting too low and if I press hard enough it's hitting the fairing

https://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a75/RS1Rebuild/DPP1567_zpssliebd5q.jpg

Went to adjust it but it's already at max adjustment

https://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a75/RS1Rebuild/DPP1568_zps2t5qdhpk.jpg

So decided I was just going to make a new adjustable rod for a quick fix.... found a likely candidate

https://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a75/RS1Rebuild/DPP1569_zpscw2hbrsa.jpg

Chopped that down with a hacksaw and smoothed off the end with a file

https://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a75/RS1Rebuild/DPP1570_zpsxkmnp5z4.jpg

Went to give that a try

https://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a75/RS1Rebuild/DPP1571_zpsshqkefol.jpg

Works a treat, brake feels good Thumbs Up

Next thing was, I dug out the mirrors from the wood shed and they are really tatty Neutral

https://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a75/RS1Rebuild/DPP1559_zpsro6ocqnw.jpg

Don't want to put those back on like that but they're not easy to tidy with that uniform texture finish on them. Could smooth them all off and colour code them but that's more than I can be arsed with right now so just going for a quick bodge tidy up on them.

Started by giving them a heavy sanding

https://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a75/RS1Rebuild/DPP1566_zpssusk2yk3.jpg

Then a few coats of texture coating

https://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a75/RS1Rebuild/DPP1572_zpsx43njoxb.jpg

Then a couple of coats of satin black

https://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a75/RS1Rebuild/DPP1573_zpsf43lkkwf.jpg

Then fitted

https://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a75/RS1Rebuild/DPP1574_zpsj5vysi0l.jpg

https://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a75/RS1Rebuild/DPP1575_zps1hs2k7nv.jpg

Far from mint but they're better than they were. I'm probably going to end up scuffing them myself anyway with keep squeezing it through the gate Laughing

If I can sort an MOT for Friday I can get the mudguard painted tomorrow night and I'll still be on track for a ride out at weekend. Think I might struggle to get it in anywhere now but will just have to see what I can sort tomorrow.

Cheers mate Thumbs Up

MOT is booked for 2pm tomorrow Shocked

Very excited..... but also quite apprehensive now Neutral

Need to get my finger out tonight and get that mudguard done, sort insurance and also realised I don't have a rear reflector so need to do something with that too.

Ingenious solution for the brake lever Thumbs Up . Mirrors look grand aswell. Hope it flies through the MOT. Your threads are encouraging me to have a play with some broken fairings I have lying about from years ago, a bit of plastic welding and rattle can action. Inspirational thread.

Thanks mate Very Happy

That's cool you're going to have a go at some plastic repairs, it's very satisfying to rescue a panel from being skipped, good luck and have fun with it Thumbs Up

Situation update on the RS2... bike is a piece of shit! Evil or Very Mad

Really been getting stressed with it tonight, think pressure of MOT and being REALLY behind with work has got to me! Sad

Sorted the red reflector, borrowed it from the RS1 (also remembered to fit the number plate)

https://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a75/RS1Rebuild/DPP1579_zpssfkpjzlo.jpg

Had a check over of everything again, lights and indicators etc all seem fine, tried the horn again (was working fine yesterday) and it's just decided to just stop working Eh?

WTF? Someones taking the piss! Mad
Got the multimeter out and I'm getting power to it so tried lacing it with contact cleaner and WD40, GT85, hitting it with a hammer... nothing but a 'click'! Frustration through the roof Evil or Very Mad

Pulled it off and tried hooking it up to the bench power supply and still no good! Eyes cast back to the RS1, I know the horn on that is working and will fit so it's gonna have to donate that too. But then looking at it, it's gonna be a PITA to get off without stripping plastics off Mad

Got mad and butchered the RS2 horn open then again laced it with contact cleaner

https://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a75/RS1Rebuild/DPP1576_zpsonk2zwsk.jpg

Still no good, ffs!

Then tried cleaning up the contacts with some paper

https://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a75/RS1Rebuild/DPP1577_zps0z6jb7ie.jpg

Put back together and tested

https://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a75/RS1Rebuild/DPP1578_zpsl4zx6mhs.jpg

Sorted, sounds as annoying as it should! Thumbs Up

Result but that was a lot of time wasted!

Then took the bike for a very quick test run up a private lane. It's running sweet and generally feels okay, clutch is a little high, not slipping but is going to want sorting sooner or later. Back brake really isn't great though and I'm not convinced it will pass tbh. Neutral

Pads are low and I should have just replaced them by now for the sake of £5 a pair delivered! Brick Wall

So, really not expecting this to sail through and I think will be more a case of finding out what needs doing.
Not too bothered about that though, I get a 15 mile round trip ride for the MOT anyway so at least I get out on it for a bit Thumbs Up Very Happy

I also get to wear all my new clobber I bought last year and haven't worn yet, helmet and jacket still have the tags on Laughing

Am insured on it as of dinner time today, cheapest quote was £115 which is quite a bit more than I wanted to pay for a 'ped but have to expect it really with not having any no claims etc.

Still got the front mudguard to paint tonight yet then should just have an hour or two with the bike tomorrow (to see what else has stopped working overnight) before it goes for the MOT.

Mudguard is painted

https://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a75/RS1Rebuild/DPP1580_zpsn3xytyh2.jpg

Feel like I can finally breathe! Smile

That's the last bit for painting so only need to deal with anything that the MOT throws up now.

Beer time Very Happy Thumbs Up

Cool! On one of my 250's, I don't know which one, but one of the number plates I just drilled a hole through the bottom right corner and put a self tapper into the back of an old push bike reflector, it then came off again after MOT and I was left with a hole in one of the plates, I have about three different plates for each bike, in case I snap one when off-roading and can't get another one before I need to put a plate back on.

None of my horns work, except the Kwak, for my pit bike I bought a bicycle horn for 99p on ebay, I actually bought a few for when China-Horn inevitably stops working randomly, and I just move it round each bike. It clamps down under the bar pad. Laughing

It'll either pass, or tell you what to sort, or both! Thumbs Up So it won't be completely wasted. When I took my pit bike for MOT it failed, but I took it to the bike place opposite work, so I rode it in Saturday morning, did work, picked it up again when I left, I got told, there was no baffle in the exhaust, the headset bearings had too much play and the number plate was facing too vertical. That was in February, I have done nothing about it. Laughing

So... MOT day! Obviously already announced the outcome but here is a summary of how things went.

Went to fit the front mudguard this morning and WTF?? Confused There is absolutely no way of fitting it without removing the front wheel Eh?

Believe me, I tried every angle possible and there was not a chance it was even nearly going to pass through the forks and so needs to passed up from the bottom! I even put a gouge in the still soft paint trying force it through Mad

This meant having to squeeze it into the workshop to put it on stands to get the front wheel off just to fit the mudguard! Wasn't happy but luckily I'd allowed myself plenty of time before MOT but really, just stupid fucking design... as with the rest of the fairing on this thing. Evil or Very Mad

Anyway, once that was sorted had a final check over of everything and am confident I've done all I can.

Got all my new gear on ready to set off, arse hole was twitching a little tbh being first time back on the road in a long time. Felt like a kid going to first day of new school, especially with all my new 'uniform' on! Embarassed Missus felt the need to take a pic as I was leaving too just to complete the experience!

Put my nerves aside and set off, within a mile of riding this thing I was really enjoying it! Had been slightly nervous about riding such a small bike on the road, had never had anything smaller than a 125 before but didn't feel vulnerable like I was expecting too, bike is plenty nippy enough to feel confident. Thumbs Up
Clutch didn't feel anything like as bad as I thought yesterday either, think I was just stressed and everything just felt wrong.
Back brake was also working spot on within a minute or two of riding so my confidence of a pass was growing.

Got to the MOT station and.... couldn't get my helmet off Embarassed
Felt like such a dick! I couldn't figure out the buckle system, only tried it once before and that was with the aid of a mirror at home! Embarassed

Once I'd done humiliating myself, I wheeled the bike in. Both the MOT guys were really into bikes themselves and none of them had seen an RS2 before. They were both made up with it and couldn't believe it was a 50 Laughing

They went to put the bike details in the system and after a minute or so I get 'got a problem here mate, are you sure that's the right reg for the bike?'

me- 'Errr... yeah?' Eh?

him - 'system says it doesn't exist' (computer says no) .... you can imagine thoughts going through my head! Pale

Asked me if I happen to have the old MOT with me as they think maybe the chassis number had been put in incorrectly on that one. Obviously I don't but luckily the the missus is at home (as it's her birthday today) so quick call to her and she sends me a pic of it. At this point it's 27 degrees and I'm in my all black textiles with a heart rate through the roof by now - I think I lost a few litres!

They double and triple checked the chassis numbers, computer says no! Shocked

Then tried his own bike details and computer said no to that too. Slight relief!

Heard them mumbling about some error on the system to do with calibration for class 1 needed renewing or something? Don't know what went on really but it was nothing to do with the bike, panic over! They got it sorted and after 30 mins of intense sweating, MOT finally begins!

Didn't want to watch while he did it so just distracted myself by having a nosey around the place.... and found something Wink

In what seemed like no time, MOT was done and it was all thumbs up, not a fault Very Happy Thumbs Up

Had a right laugh riding home, can really throw this thing about! Obviously needs moa powah but I was smiling ear to ear just trying to get the most out of it! Very happy days Very Happy

Congrats on the MOT pass dude!Thumbs Up

It's a mint little bike and there is no reason why it shouldn't be a laugh your cock off every moment your riding it experience either!Laughing

The story of the big day and build up to it made me smile too, and I could visualize your nerves/anxiety too.

I bet seeing that All-cast in the back of the shop was a surprise too! And I do think they are great bikes, they are like the better built VFR of the 125cc sportsbike class. Laughing

But I'm going to say Don't do it though!

Yes an NSR125 would be great must have addition to your stable and collection, but with two mint 50's and a MITO, I can't see it ending well, both in explaining yourself or in having all you fleet on the road and not being broke and surrounded by stuff that is constantly being nagged about and or stopping you getting in/out of the workshop even to do anything.

I can genuinely see your reasons for wanting to give that dusty sad little gem a new home, but other than possibly mentioning/passing details on to a mate with space, I would say it's the seller's job and duty to make sure it lands up with a loving home, not yours.

So which one is going to get for sale sign now, the RS1 or RS2? Laughing
I just couldn't call it myself seeing both bikes looking mint and amazing, so good luck on that one when the time comes!

Cheers pal Thumbs Up

Was quite a surprise finding the NSR in there, there were a couple of other old classics in the same dusty state too but that was the one that got my attention Very Happy

He hasn't got it up for sale, I just asked if I can buy it! It's one of his own bikes that he's never got around to doing anything with, it's complete (side panels were there) but non runner which he suspects is the coil.
He said a sensible bid will buy it but he's not got it up for sale and obviously doesn't need to sell it so isn't going to give it away for nothing.

I know I said I absolutely wouldn't buy another bike until the Mito is finished and you're right that I don't want more bikes lying around and all the stress that goes with etc etc... but... it's a dusty old NSR125 needing a new lease of life! Surely it must be fate or something just finding it there like that too? Plus, I just really really want it! Laughing

So, I have a plan Wink

As for which of the 50s will be going up for sale, it's an absolute no brainer for me - RS2!

If I was a 16 year old in the market for a 50 and was offered a choice of either for £1k I'd jump straight to the RS2 without giving the RS1 a second look BUT as I know both of these bikes intimately, I choose the RS1 without any hesitation.

Having played on the RS2, yeah it really is awesome fun to ride, looks the business and has all the trick bits but.. I wouldn't /don't want to own it for any length of time. My thoughts of it haven't changed much since I started working on it, it's not as well made as the RS1 and it just 'feels' cheaper. I absolutely detest the fairings on it, they are really flimsy and I hate the way they're put together!
I like to be able to tinker a lot with my bikes but would dread having to do anything on the RS2, just to remove a side panel you've got to remove the nose first which obviously means removing the mirrors before you can even do that! Okay we're only talking a few bolts here and there but then it's finding somewhere to put the panels without getting them damaged etc. it's just a pain.

So, as much as I'm enjoying the RS2, as soon as the V5 comes back through the letter box it'll be going straight on Gumtree for around £800 - £1k (depending on what condition its in by then Laughing ).

And then 'the plan' comes into action! Once the RS2 is sold, I take the RS1 straight in for MOT and if that NSR is still there with more dust on it I'm putting a bid in for it. If he doesn't accept it, no worries but if he does I will do nothing to it other than get it running and MOTd (and give it a wash). I can then sell the RS1 and run the NSR until the Mito is done and THEN strip the NSR for full rebuild Thumbs Up

Whatever happens I've decided the Mito rebuild will begin at the end of August. We've just booked a holiday for middle of August (my first one in 6 years) so am having a break from major project work unitl I'm back from that. In the mean time I'll just be enjoying riding and general tinkering with the RS1 / RS2.

Oh and almost forgot - MOT £29

Have also had a reckon up of what I've spent on paint and materials and it's a bit more than it should / could have been really but will be around £40 in total.

Still got the decals to order yet but not been able to get any images decent enough for the decal guy to vector so am having to resort to trying to design my own in photoshop. Will hopefully have something I'm happy enough in the next few days and can then get those ordered.

Anyway, here's a few pics of the RS2 in a rural location. Free iphone 9 and an albino rabbit to anyone who recognises the location Wink

Thanks mate Thumbs Up

As for next project... must admit I'm already looking forward to it myself too now! Very Happy

On Friday night after I'd pealed off my textiles and got in the shower it was the most relaxed I've felt in weeks!!

It's been a really intense few weeks getting the RS2 rattled off and behind the scenes there's been a lot of stress and very late nights trying to get it finished! The relief of it passing the MOT and me not really having anything I need to do was almost overwhelming!

But.... I'm already starting to miss it and think I'm soon going to be bored! Found myself looking at aftermarket exhausts for the RS2 tonight Eh? Hand

Absolutely not going down that route and managed to snap myself out of it pretty sharpish. If some kid wants to tune the hell out of it and try and get another horse or two that's up to him, not my place!

I just feel a constant itch to improve upon what I have, but doesn't make any sense to put more money into the RS2... so guess I've just got to have some restraint and chill for a bit now Laughing

Yeah I agree with you, I quite like the more 'mature' look the bike has as it is in that colour. It won't be having full graphics or anything but I do want decals on it just to break it up a bit and also just to take away that 'I've just had a full respray' look - they will just finish it off a bit.

As mentioned earlier, they will be fairly discreet but want to carry some of the orange from the wheels onto the bike too.

So my thinking so far is to have 'RIEJU' in orange at the very bottom of the side panels (will be quite big). Then will be having something like this (as far as I've got in photoshop)

https://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a75/RS1Rebuild/decal1_zpsvspipsl1.png

Which I'll have under the large vents in the side panels and then smaller of the same for under the rear seat on the tail. The RS2 part will be in either black or c/f effect and so won't stand out much against that colour. It will all be a bit experimental to some extent but I've got a pretty good image in my head of what I want.

Well done on the MOT pass mate Thumbs Up

Get the NSR, I used to have a couple many moons ago, a Raidan and a 51 plate.

Finally this....after reading your threads I decided to lacquer an old seat cowl with a rattle can I had lying around. With the garage full of crap I decided to do it outside thinking James has done it...what could go wrong?

The wind blew the lacquer in my eyes the first time I sprayed it. I'm gonna clear the garage then try again. Indoors.

Cheers pal Thumbs Up

I'll keep open minded to the NSR, I don't want to bid silly money on it as I'd rather be spending the funds on the Mito but if he takes a fair bid then I'll be hapy to take it in and give it a loving home Very Happy
It wouldn't be a keeper, that will be the Mito, but I'd like to own it for a bit and would really enjoy doing a full resto' on it.

Yeah, spraying outside has its downfalls! Laughing

Spraying in the workshop can have its issues too though, slightest bit of dust in the air and it will find its way into your lacquer! Evil or Very Mad
If I intend to be spraying in the workshop I make sure I don't use the blast cabinet in the few days before and also strictly don't use any kind of maintenance spray, lube or anything else that contains silicones and waxes etc in there either!

If you're having a good clear up in the garage, I'd leave it a day or two after you've done that before you do any spraying to let the dust settle first. When you come to do your spraying, don't be tempted to have a quick sweep before hand, obviously you'll just be kicking dust back into the air. I tend to just wet the floor down before I start and that will at least stop any dirt or dust being kicked up from while you paint.
