Ah yes, the boy is learning the way to service and maintain a grey import 400.

See those patches of rust on all the major joins in the subframe? Thats your "unbeatable" honda build quality.

I see the carbs are still on goosey. You need to take them off so you can fail to get them to seat properly on reinstallation and have it running like a dog forever.

Goosey do you have a Haynes?

I may be able to give you a hand someday.

I always find an extra pair of hands is very useful, and ive messed around on mine as well abit...

Still waiting for my fuel pump for mine, so i can sort it out properly...

yeh ive got a haynes, i dont use it for a lot, cos its more of a slow process than just having a go

and if haynes is claimed to be so comprehensive, why the hell dont they tell you the size of spanner you are gonna need at the time, or socket, etc, really winds me up, and scanning to the beginning of the chapter for other specs and torque settings is a pain and totally pointless

rob, the carbs are still on, i cant get them off, cos the collars are twisted in the wrong place so the screwdriver wont get in there....korn suggest just appling extreme violence which i might well do, but as you said they may never go back on, and they need setting up anyway, so i might leave that to dyno man

and thanks for the offer claud, but im doing ok so far, isnt really room for another person atm Razz

The carbs. You should be able to get through to them. maybey try coming from the rear subframe way, if the angle is tight and you cant get through by way of the little oval holes on the side of the frame. Im assuming you know that u have to take the air ducts off...

If they are on properly, they should be very tough to pull off.

Remember to lube them up as well when you put the rubber/carbs back on, otherwise they are incredible hard to put on.

Read the Haynes because it gives you good tips for removal/installation.

After you have done it 1 time, it becomes very easy...

I'll come and help and be a very special 'half person', capable of getting into all those small nooks and crannies associated with mini 400s. Thumbs Up

Wouldn't it have been a better idea to take the down pipes off and rest the engine casing on the bricks rather than something that can bend under pressure. Confused

nope, exhaust downpipes are more than capable of supporting that load, especially as its on a paddock stand as well

the load is spread thanks to the block of wood, and at the strongest point in the pipes, just before they all join 4 into 1, so you have strength there

taking downpipes off is a bastard job, the bolts are bad news if you break/snap/round them off, and it also means new gaskets all round, no thanks

but thanks for your comment Thumbs Up Razz
