That's what I'll be saying when I run out of fuel on the M25
I inherited the bike after my Brother died recently so it's mixed feelings for me.....that'll probably change a bit once I get on it but I'd much rather he was still riding it. ____________________ Space Is Deep |

Thanks, Peppermami I have no more siblings so at least I won't have to go through that again thank fk.
Did the car trailer wiring yesterday, after procrastinating about it for about 3 years........ so ready to roll on Sunday. 'Hoping to be on the A38, giving it a jolly good thrashing by Monday.
I'm wondering why those tyres went flat, seems a bit unusual ____________________ Space Is Deep

It`s your bike now, I know that, but don`t chop it up and spoil it please |
If I do anything, it'll all be reversable, I did that last time OK. Most hybrid builders seem to go for the latest suspension etc, I don't think you need to, I just want it to stop and go around corners better than it did in1975 and be able to use more modern rubber. I've got a Ducati front end spare, I could see if that lines up, will have to measure the back but will stick with twin shocks, I think Girling are producing shocks again so will get something that looks like it fits in with the rest of the bike time-wise. The bike won't look massively different until you look closer. It's not a good donor for a radical chop as it was really more of a cruiser than a sports bike.
There was a couple of blokes in Handsworth when I lived near there in the late '70s that both had wild GT750 customs...loads of chrome as was the thing then, Barton 800cc(?) Barrels, Italian brakes, king and queen seat etc, etc. One of the bikes could do 145mph which was pretty good at the time, and could stop better tha most bikes then. One of the owners, who we knicknamed "German Mick" used to wear a German helmet and chromed chains on his jacket Ariel may know these geezers, he's not far from there. ____________________ Space Is Deep |

Bandit running gear seems to be the easy way
https://classic-motorbikes.net/wp/suzuki-gt750-special/
That's not nice but the running gear is the main thing.
Weird thing is, although this is not what I'll do...I could sell the front end for a lot more than it would cost to get a much better performing one, same with the pipes. ____________________ Space Is Deep |

This is an M model with Higgspeed pipes:-

That bikes been tortured though...not enough revs Gives you an idea how it was sold as a cruiser/tourer.
This is more like a 750 two stroke tripple should be ridden IMO:-

Check the forks topping out under acceleration about 3:30 ____________________ Space Is Deep |

Well all the best with whatever you do with it. They do look nice that grey/silver colour too.
I kind of agree with Pepper's in that a nice original machine is best left fairly std save for subtle tweaks, and nice pipes (every example needs pipes!!)
For something more radical or modified then starting with a basket case is still a better bet, or even just a motor and frame if you want nothing else from a GT on it.
As for serious Kettle special's, well if you have a look on Ebay at the moment it appears that Richard Lindoe is flogging off all his best Kettle specials for some reason?
He has that many bikes and projects though, I bet he doesn't get to ride half of them, so it's nice to see them being sold if not being used, but only if it's for someone else to enjoy, not for a living room ornament. |

Lovely bike I am jealous as fuck (obviously sorry about your brother).
I had a GT500 but the 750 kettle was the one I always wanted. If I owned that it would be a complete restoration back to original then out every sunny Sunday to the old codgers show and tell bike meets. ____________________ Triumph Trophy Launch Edition |

Like one of those never ending restorations that cost the earth you mean
It would be nice...but it's a total strip down, I suppose I could do the crankcases myself save stripping the motor down...if it's OK that is, the gasket set looks ominous there are quite a few parts need replacing if everything's got to me very clean, little bits that all add up. I'll be lucky if I can get the pipes re-chromed............ I'll have to go through it I suppose. ____________________ Space Is Deep |

IT RUNS
Battery arived today so I thought I'd give the motor a few spins. I had convinced myself the engine was siezed but it span over like a good 'un It even fired up but I stopped it sharpish as about half a pint of water had spewed out of each pipe I remember my brother telling me that they had a flood at his house a couple of years ago so more than likely from then. I doubt that the engine has been waterlogged as I don't think it would have turned over as well. So, pipes off and dried, fresh fuel and we'll see what happens. It's all good so far though......ah, almost forgot, there's a dripping leak from where the leads come out of the alternator casing. I'm not sure iif the grommet is at fault or if the seal on the crank has gone 'Something else to worry about though.
