Great bikes. I had 3 NC50's with the ratchet starting mechanism, I think your red one is the NA50. Make sure the tank hasn't rusted through, It's a common problem and you end up with an oil tank full of petrol. A few people have done the hack and weld of an expansion chamber on them but the limiting factor is that you can't change the gearing so 40 is about as much as you can get before you grenade it. I get more fun out of mopeds than motorbikes these days. It's great getting something that was only designed to do 25mph up to 35mph. I also ride around with a smile on my face which is more than I can say about my commute on my 900!

its a nc50 deluxe mate its down in v5 as that anyways lol engine is turning over so just need to get size of barrel once i get it off other engine and il get a new piston and get it together and oil as its been drained

there good little moped i like them because there not heavy either for moving around like the modern ones. plus there quite nippy for what they are lol i plan to do a trip up to top of scotland once its finished and i find some people to go with Very Happy will be able to give it a good run as well Smile

also took head of the blue engine and behold its seized barrel won't even budge. (anyone got ideas to get it off?)

https://i1105.photobucket.com/albums/h348/motocrossguy17/NC50%20blue/photo%202%202_zps4kfbcu3d.jpg

cylinder head isn't too bad though Smile

managed to the get barrel off eventually with a little hammering and a sore finger later lol

piston wasn't being used so not fussy about it being broken but for anyone looking to get one out that is just wanting it out and not bothering about piston i used ball point hammer put ball end in barrel and using a claw hammer (mash would work too i suppose) but just kept at it and barrel went up and up and eventually dropped off

just to clean this barrel up and see if i need to rebore and il get a piston and put it on the red express.

need to wait on a impact driver coming though from ebay as the screws on cases are too tight for screwdriver.

got to source new bolt type bolts for cases too but i think i may get them from cmsnl or we moto or if anyone knows another site let me know as ebay don't sell them

here are the pictures Smile

not using that engine mate only robbed it for the barrel and head going to split the rest and sell it as its a different kickstart to my 80s one and i doubt the rest of it is use able by state of piston and barrel

phoned my local engineering place today and going to take the head to be skimmed and rebored tomorrow hopefully once my granparents car is fixed hoping to get it up and running by this weekend need to wait on my battery though and need to go get a key Smile

not been up to much with orange express lately as had no funds.

stripped the blue one down completely and sold frame on it. still got the rest of it to sell but made my money back on frame alone (£60) for what i paid for whole thing

i need to wait on my granparents getting their car fixed and then il be able to take my barrel and cylinder head away to be done.

also take my ignition barrel to get a key cut

my battery is due today which i think il need to chop and re crimp a wire as the fuse on it just now is broken but getting a battery with one attached so il just chop the fuse off my wire and reconnect it

checked all the bearings on wheels etc and all fine so i think once i get engine done and its running il only have to replace the 2 tyres and maybe bulbs and it will sail through a mot as everything they check on them is fine a side tyres (both cracked ones that's on it)

need to check also not sure how it works but the orange express has a fuel guage attached to fuel tank (didn't even know they had them back then) im guessing it works off the battery somehow which il need to check as well oh and order transmission oil and 2 stroke oil too

got about £160 to spend on it before its finished and ready to mot but need to shift these parts first to pay for the bits

latest update my barrel is knackered. someone has had a hammer at it previously and knackered the top where head joins.

my choice was to buy another used barrel but its gonna cost about £140 to import one as there is only 1 available on ebay. but on the plus side i found a site that sells big bore kits for £30 less so going with that instead as you get everything including a recondition barrel and piston etc.

I'm impressed Maxi04, you seem to know your way around this particular model(s) of bike.

lol 2 strokes are my thing lol i can do any kind of work on 2 strokes but i hate 4 stroke (timing that gets me lol) i never went with the reconditioned barrel in end. i am going to see if i win another engine on ebay tonight and just use barrel off that as it will only cost me £30 instead of £110 for a barrel on ebay. i would have got the reconditioned barrel if i had money but i have still to buy a exhaust along with paying my debt back to my gran which i got to buy the orange express in first place im hoping to finish it though before end of september if i manage to get the parts sold and get the bits i need as there hard as hell to find lol

Hi guys got my oil pump cover through yesterday for this. and got the clutch casing bolts in from america this morning Smile not been doing anything with bike lately as working on reliant robin with my mums partner but there on holiday in 2-3 weeks so il probably be doing it then and hopefully il get it all finished as il have about a week to do it.

still soaking my barrel on engine i bought before i take it off but may have to source exhaust stud bolts as they look knackered.

il update as soon as i can

here is a couple of pictures Smile

hi guys a bit of update and news.

update first

i got my new exhaust through Smile along with my rock lite oil for engine once its built

pictures

https://i1105.photobucket.com/albums/h348/motocrossguy17/NC50/photo%201%202_zpsnrqjmzgr.jpg

https://i1105.photobucket.com/albums/h348/motocrossguy17/NC50/photo%201%202_zpsnrqjmzgr.jpg

https://i1105.photobucket.com/albums/h348/motocrossguy17/NC50/photo%203_zpsbglwwuvw.jpg

as for the news the engine i got as spares or repair turned out to be nothing useful as its been lying too long. (going to have to hope i can get casing off whole and try to get some of my money back on it)

so i ended up just buying the original barrel from america which i should have done in the first place. its a clean bore on it and its standard i think as well. that is estimated between the 16 and 30th of this month to arrive (going by ebay anyways but my bolts arrived sooner)

and il get piston ordered and get it built.

exhaust looks awesome and really good (i should think though for the price of it lol)

but getting there with bike just sent of my provisional once it comes through and i get my moped finished il be doing my cbt and putting my moped through a mot Smile

just to get the piston and 2 tyres and iv got all the bits i need unless i need bulbs but there nothing to fuss about

Thanks mate getting there got the blue one stripped and sold and made tidy profit on it as well (well swap the parts i had left after i sold frame and carb for a ps3 and can get £80 ish out of it so it will pay for the rest of my bits i need) waiting on v5 coming through for it but should be here next 2 weeks as i sent it off a week and a half ago Smile

Hi guys i sold the ps3 i got in a swap for some of the blue express parts so iv got funds there for to get my tyres Smile (not ordering until i get bike up and running)

my barrel landed in the uk on the 7th so i think i should receive it tomorrow or friday. my piston should also be here then too.

hooked my ignition up but not bolt it on yet as the thread cover for the speedo cable has fallen off and is somewhere in my shed so will have to pull out the bikes to get it (currently got my orange express and my mums partners blue express in there at moment so not hauling them out the now.)

just to fit

Fit Piston and barrel when it arrives
cylinder head
gasket to clutch casing
fill with oil
take my petrol tank off and rinse with petrol as its a little rusty inside. (waiting on a fuel filter coming for it as thought id be on safe side)
fit exhaust
and fit battery and i should be able to get it fired up Smile

once its running just to test lights , order my 2 tyres (kings tread im going for) and i am thinking i may get my front and rear wheel chrome dipped before fitting tyres just to freshen them up as there the only thing really with rust on it to put rest of bike off (only £20 a wheel so not that bad)

but will update with pictures over next few days with progress

still to find a cheap heat shield for my exhaust but proven a little difficult as there all in the usa Sad

nice job so far mate Thumbs Up

I had one of these bikes as my first one many years ago when we all had mopeds, we used to have great fun on them buzzing around at 30mph, if we hit 35 of even 40 we thought we were flying Very Happy

Cheers pal Smile my mums partner owns one (a blue one 1979 model) and i just love driving it plus there nice and light to move about unlike the modern style scooters/mopeds reason i went with it.

iv got all my parts through to finish it just need to wait for a day when its not pouring off rain as can't do nowt as my shed is too small to work in so have to pull it out to do it but not happening today with rain Sad
