Picked up a pair of minibikes in pretty bad shape off Paddy for very little. A monkey, and a 50 frame pitbike.

Stole the engine from the monkey, a Lifan 72cc with an E22 large valve head & fitted it to the Thump.

I then bodged it together to have a quick hoon round the field. Very odd gear pattern, N-1-2-3-4 all down. Pokey enough for many wheelies in 1st and 2nd but 3rd & 4th are tall enough to be civilised on the road.

Had a call from HMRC today to let me know the NOVA applications been put through, so will have my confirmation in 3-4 days. Then I'll be binning about half of the bike to make it roadworthy. The frame, engine, CDI, some of the wiring, the wheels, discs, forks and yokes will stay...everything else is fit for the bin.

Now the build can start, all it needs is an MOT/insurance and I can get my plate/V5 Mr. Green

This however made me chuckle. Don't think it's MOT worthy somehow...

So are you making this road legal from scratch?
Always wanted to do that with a pit or monkey bike but never known where to start as I've heard people say differant things about it

What you doing with the monkey bike roller out of interest?

Doe it have type approval ?

I once bought a new JingCheng DAX which sadly didn't and ended up having to take it to teh local VOSA depot in a van for an SVA (Single Vehicle Approval). When I forgot the wing mirrors the b*ggers made me bring it back with them on. It also failed on the radius of the lip on the front mudgaurd that was determind to be too 'sharp' !

Good luck with it whatever happens. Looks enormous fun.

Exempt from type approval because I'm claiming it's a Trials bike. It fits the DVLA description of a Trials Motorcycle so why not exempt myself from noise regs, lighting regs, and a few other bits that are quite a pain in the backside?
