Can't wait...

I never want to scrape off 3 layers of gasket paper from every surface of an engine ever again. Even then, it showed signs of coolant leaking from every possible seal.

Quite enjoyed building it, its (almost) therapeutic. Very happy it started first kick.

I hope you put at least some paint on it?!

Finally got round to mot'ing it

Front brakes shat themselves + they felt wank anyway so got some nice TT600 calipers that fit straight on, brakes feel like any modern bike should do now.

https://i825.photobucket.com/albums/zz176/robyarr/Screenshot_2016-08-05-12-27-28_zps6pa6ftti.png

Need to paint the spannies black and get a new chain to make it 100%, then might think about having the tank painted and poss have the rest of the framework sprayed

Sprayed the spannies up with high temp plasticote paint this weekend, gave them a good scrub, sand and then wire wheeled whatever else was left on

https://i825.photobucket.com/albums/zz176/robyarr/20160814_142016_zpsknlw6f7d.jpg

then sprayed it on, then cured it on the bike, come out quite well i reckon, will see how it goes over the next few weeks

I'm really worried about using opposed piston calipers on non-floating discs. I think that might be a recipie for warpage at best, at worst who knows? Brake seizure maybe. I guess as long as you make sure that all the pistons in both calipers move freely you *should* be OK, but manufacturers use floating discs for a reason...

Other than that, good work.

I know you have been hit hard by recent events and are a bit unhinged, but a great many bikes used opposed calipers and rigid discs and didn't suffer unduly with warped discs.......

You know the standard calipers are opposed pistons aswell? the 31k's had one with just a piston in one side

Do you mean 4 pot calipers? The RD has opposed piston calipers as standard.

Think with floating disks and 4 pot calipers it is more that they were both just advances that became financially viable at about the same time.

All the best

The contemporary FZ750 was similarly equipped.

as per with pretty much all 2 strokes i've owned, one header has a pin hole in, so will have to patch that up somehow.

I just assumed that floating discs came about because manufacturers wanted to use opposed piston calipers. With pitbikes you need to run a floating disc in order to use the brembo copy opposed piston calipers...

To be fair I did exactly the same mod on my RD (I told Rob about it in the first place) and I didn't die, but just voicing my concerns.

I figured that sliding calipers would adjust themselves to the position of the disc, but with opposed piston calipers which are fixed, you need some movement and that movement is in the disc instead of the caliper. But, if there are bikes with four pot opposed piston calipers and fixed discs, I stand corrected.

Opposed piston calipers can just move the pistons a to adjust themselves. With most road bikes there is very little movement in the semi floating disks anyway (proper floating disks are pretty rare on road bikes

All the best
