Hi guys got a 1990 H1 back in October as a bit of a project to do up and use for a few track days and general toy. Heres a few pics of how it was and how it stands now.

Its been in the garage this week with running issues, which was due to tight valve clearances. Should be picking her up tomorrow. Im quite excited as I havnt ridden it properly as yet. Very Happy

The H1 is 1989, belt driven alternator. You have got an H2 (1990). Wink

Cool project though, I like these early liquid cooled in-line fours. Thumbs Up

Some H1's were registered in 1990 - I had one too.

If I recall they sold of lots of the 1st model cheap when the 2nd model with the longer swingarm came in. The 1st model had black 'hoover' pipes. Had one for a month and loved the noise, silly riding position and front end. Hated the fact that the rear preload was set up for a sumo wrestler though...

I see, well here we tell the bikes by the year of production, not the first registration. Did they change the alternator drive for the late H1's or stayed with the belt driven alternator for all the H1's?

Ye its a 89 model but was registered on the 1st January 90. Think the H2 was still alternator. Cant remeber all the differences, but the swing arm was different, different carbs I think. Im sure the oil filter set up was different too.

Ye the riding position is mad, but I am 6ft 3 and built like a sumo, so the shock is ok. Laughing

They used alternator upto 2001 (ZX7R), but the H1 was belt driven, so it could slip under load if the belt was loose enough, just like in a car.

So took the bike out for its first proper run last week, did about 50 miles on her. Got back to discover the fork seals are weeping a bit, there is a bit of a leak from round the front sprocket cover.

Then it struggled to turn over the next day, put a meter on it to find that the battery wasnt charging when the bike is running.

So it hasnt moved since. Crying or Very sad

more jobs to be done.
