My report for a trip down to Barcelona in Spain which eleven of us got back from last week. We went down and back up through France, taking twelve days in total.

We wanted to try and make the riding-days a bit less exhausting mileage-wise this time and also enjoy a few days actually seeing Barcelona area off the bikes as opposed to riding non-stop everyday, so we got a hotel just outside Barcelona for 4 nights in the middle of the trip and walked or got taxi's locally instead of riding constantly everyday.

Overall it was a really good trip, although a bit too eventful at points Laughing.

The route down to Barcelona.

Gathered in Poole earling in the morning to get the ferry over to Cherbourg.

An omen of things to come Laughing. Ended up getting briefly trailed by these and some other police bikes three times over the course of the trip. One pair later on in the week even went to the effort of repeatedly overtaking some of the group, pulling in ahead of them and then following again for some time to try and catch someone out.

Within an hour of getting off the ferry we noticed noobRider's Sprint had got a puncture. Luckily we managed to repair it quite easily with one of the Fix N' Go kits and get on our way again.

Continued on our way to Bordeaux.
https://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag227/bcfeurojolly2014/spain%20thread/b%2016_zpshmbg8fgr.jpg

First drama of the trip.
After having an unpleasant banging sound for a few hours, we eventually pulled over to inspect Paris2's Daytona properly. We checked the calipers, brakes, chain and eventually ended up deciding there was something wrong with the wheel which was making intermitant banging sounds at random when it was turned.
https://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag227/bcfeurojolly2014/spain%20thread/b%2017_zps3hcb56ia.jpg

Borrowed a jack from a garage in the trading estate and got the bike jacked up and wheel off. Only to find the bearings were about to collapse and the bike was basically unable to go any further in its current state safely.
https://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag227/bcfeurojolly2014/spain%20thread/b%2018_zps7vkl9yn6.jpg

Phoned for breakdown and began waiting for the lorry to arrive.
https://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag227/bcfeurojolly2014/spain%20thread/b%2019_zpstngocbcz.jpg

Eventually.
https://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag227/bcfeurojolly2014/spain%20thread/b%2020_zpsht7hhlhx.jpg

Paris2 and the bike were taken by the lorry a while, but because the nearby garage had shut by this time it ended up left at the breakdown compound for the night until it could be taken to the nearest garage in the morning, so we pillioned him the last leg of the journey with us into Bordeaux.
https://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag227/bcfeurojolly2014/spain%20thread/b%2021_zps5pprrxld.jpg

Day 3 – Bordeaux to Pamplona via Biarritz
We managed to find a Triumph dealer in Bordeaux and organised the bike to be brought there. Triumph didn't have the bearings in stock so so we had a look around the local Kawasaki, Ducati and Suzuki dealers in the trading estate and managed to buy some from the Suzuki shop in the end. Unfortunately the bike wasn't due to arrive until much later in the day so we agreed to carry on to Pamplona and let the Daytona catch up after it was fixed in the evening.

Day 6 - Barcelona area and Zaragoza to Barcelona for two of us
Met Paris2 early in the morning and freed the ZX6 from its shackles at the impound. We then both made our way back to the hotel to meet everyone else.

Day 10 – Clermont Ferrand to Orleans
MattB had to leave the group early in the morning to go elsewhere in France for a bit. In the morning Paris2 finally got confirmation from his breakdown company what the situation was – they were going to provide him a hire van to get the bike. We dropped him off at the van hire office by the airport in the morning and carried on towards Orleans.

Day 11 – Orleans to Bayeux

Holy shit! What a trip! Great write up. Very well documented.

Wen MattB said to me on facebook that I shouldn't be jealous of you all on the trip, I thought he might have been exaggerating but daaayyuuuuum you guys had an eventful time!

Not sure if I'm happy that I couldn't make it or not. Laughing

Serious lack of swing arm dust in this thread Agreed.
And Pringle discs.Good point.

I should also add, on day 1 of the trip I discovered my swingarm had a rotten hole after having its first jet wash the night before.

And the discs gradually became more and more warped to the point I was mostly using the rear brake the last two days because it felt like hitting speed bumps using the front.

And both my sidelights and highbeam bulbs had blown by the time the ferry landed back home. The one remaining main beam required me to punch the nose fairing to make it turn on and off. Just in case there wasn't enough other problems going on.

Interesting - thanks for the writeup. I normally read your trip reports wishing I could have come along, but reading this one I'm not so sure! A £600 fine is pretty rough.

Also, is that a Pegaso that I see? How well does that work, a 660 single touring with 4cyl 600s and 1000s?
