There are already a few tools on BCF, Wink , here's another one! Laughing

Here is a picture of those annoying timing cover plugs that need to be removed to check timing etc.
Of the 4 engines I've got at the moment all of these plug are in varying stages of knackeredness and get, slightly, worse every time they're removed!

The odd thread pops up now and again on how to remove these, goddam, awful things.
Fortunately I've not got one stuck at the moment, however I've used something similar to this to remove one before.
However I'd say this gadget is really for easy removal and installation and to help any further damage!

I made this out of a couple of bits of scrap metal I had lying round, basically a bracket and some square section steel tube.

I made a blade out of an old steel bracket, I shaped it to fit into both sizes of plug.
The bracket happened to be the right thickness to fit, snugly, into larger of the plugs, all that had to be done to that end was get exactly the right shape.
The other end, for the smaller plug, had to be shaped then the thickness reduced with a file!

Once I'd done that all that was left to do was make the "box" part of the wrench.
I cut a slot in the end of the box section, drilled a hole throught it, to attach the blade and another at the other end to get a small tommy bar through it.

The finished article:-

The blade swivels around the bolt, so no need to take it apart to change the blade, just loosen then retighten.

Last week I was doing valve clearances, the only way I could get the timing plugs out was with an impact driver.
I've just loosened them both in a few seconds, so I know it works, hopefully there will be no further damage to the plugs or my wallet!
