Passed Cool

2 advisories;

Slight judder from rear brake - lack of use I'm guessing.
Cut in rear tyre - I've not actually seen this yet.

Happy as some bloke called Larry.

Took it for a blast after round some local twisties. Feels good! Although it is annoying having to drop a couple of gears to get past cars quickly compared to the torque of the k6.

It did have a moment and cut out. It was instant like the kill switch had been pressed and it started straight back up and didn't do it again. I'm guessing it could just be the contacts of the kill switch as when I hit the kill switch it does the exact same thing (revs drop to zero and check message comes on). I'll look at that next time I'm in the garage.

Thumbs Up

Total cost: £104.59 or £995.59 including the bike Smile

But hey ho, I'll give it a go. Its not a bad little bike so far!

9/10 it's cheaper to buy a bike already track ready than to turn your current bike into a track bike.

Sell your current minter for whatever it's worth (circa £1,900?) & buy a track ready K1-K3 600 for like £1,500 - probably have wets and what not too if you're lucky. Use money saved to do more track days Smile

I guesstimated the prices, so don't hold me to them.

I did put this in the "What you did today" thread but ill put it here too;

Took the k1 to Snetterton last week (4th July) for its first trackday and I came away with a huge smile on my face. I wasn't impressed with it on the road. The shock was too hard (crudely adjusted by previous owner) and there's a weird weave thing happening at about 30mph.

On track though, sublime. Realised after the tyres are 6 and 7 years old but had zero grip issues. Handling was spot on. Brakes where spot on. Easily a match power wise with the newer 600s which where a suprise and happily gained on them when getting on the power quickly.

180/60 rear tyre is a new one to me. On previous 180/55 I had none outside strips. On the k6 190/50 (I think) has no outside strips. The 180/60 has a few mm left on either side. More room to play!

Today I gave the k6 it's first clean since its trip to the lake district. Cleaned off the bugs on the k1 with the leftover dirty water and cleaned and adjusted both chains.

I also checked the head bearings and front wheel bearings on the k1 which all seem fine so I'm not sure where the 30mph weave is coming from. I did adjust the tightness of the head bearing so will see if it's made any difference another day.

Here's before I started because tart.

https://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh163/adam673673/Mobile%20Uploads/20160705_201126_zpspsz2hzr1.jpg

Looking forward to stripping them both down over winter and turning the k1 in to a more traditional track bike. Thumbs Up

Took both the K1 600 and K6 1000 to snetterton today (12th July) Mr. Green

A mate and his brother had use of the K1 and i enjoyed the K6. They both raced in a 250/400 class, this was my 3rd trackday (in 5 weeks though...).

No issues or moments but should have been in inters.

Left the micron on the k6 and took the standard just in case. The micron failed the noise test with 107db and i only gave it 4.5k revs instead of the 5.5k they asked for Laughing Standard tested at 90db.

Annoyingly there was a ducati that apparently read 109db (standard!?) but they let him on anyway. It didn't seem any louder down the straight though.

Should have a decent video of me out in front of the K1, will see when i get a linky.

Video is of the K1 flying past and then me taking 3 bikes on the finish straight Mr. Green

https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/13612397_10153781684612406_4198194900975714840_n.jpg?oh=6d4e8d40fefde2cab3b36360778b9de6&oe=58286F45

Im going to look at a set of K1 track fairings ive found for £50.

I am thinking one more track day next month before the big strip down.

Nice one mate! Where did you get track fairings that cheap?!

Mine is going to be a road bike predominantly, with odd track use so wouldn't mind some cheap fairings

Keep an eye on ebay, just dont buy the ones im after! Hopefully picking them up tomorrow.

Ill probably vinyl wrap them.

There was very few crashes today and only one red flag which was mostly because it was the last 5 minutes of the final session!

Looking forward to some photos and videos going up.

Are they a mixture of yellow/blue fairings by chance...? Haha.

Good write up though - I'm considering either Oulton or Croft in August to pop my cherry. Probably Croft to be honest as its closest and I already know the layout.

Are you planning any suspension mods?

No they are white and advertised for a srad but they're not srad fairings. They've also been taken off ebay once I pointed it out to him.

Suspension wise, they bike is fine as it is. It feels a little funny on slow corners but then it feels funny at 30mph going straight (which I will be looking in to over winter).

I'm tempted my k tech internals in the forks and have also read up on swapping the front end for USD forks. I figured the better springs would outweigh the standard usds in performance.

I will keep my eye out on a cheap used shock or see if a stock shock from something newer bolts in. The stock shock is 15 years old now....

I think the most important thing is to get it set up for your weight though.

Only other bolt on will probably be levers and rear sets and the rest on tyres and trackdays Thumbs Up

I picked up the fairings last night but still unsure if they came from a 600/750 or 1000. The K1 is sitting at in my mates work garage till i pick it up later. It will probably be a bit late to start stripping the old fairings off unfortunately and im away all weekend Sad

Photos are up from the 12th.

My body positioning is still terrible, but i do look a little looser.

Good example of roughly how and how not to be positioned with Chris on the K1 Laughing

https://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh163/adam673673/k6_zps16abrd2m.jpg

My left positioning is worse. I had better positioning in other photos but its nice to see my lean angle looks ok;

https://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh163/adam673673/k6%202_zpsxvrynwvd.jpg

Currently sitting in my ebay basket are a set of levers, rear sets, exhaust hanger and fuel cap (bit worried about snapping the key in this one). All for £120 delivered from China! Im trying to wait till winter though...

My road fairings are going to be up for sale, might not be worth converting them though if you can find another cheap set.

This might be handy for you;

https://www.sportsbike.org/suspension/pictures/sus1w.htm

I set mine up to roughly the 10stone settings (I'm probably about 10 stone kitted up) this evening and it seems to have solved my 30mph weave!

Where the previous owner wound the the spring up to its highest/hardest and coupled with the higher profile rear tyre the geometry must have been shot.

Only had a 7 or so mile run (reserve light was flashing away) but it seems more flickable and seems to hold the line better. A longer test is needed but I'm much more happy and should be a good Base for future tweaking.

I also wound yhe damper on to its loosest half way through my test which is probably where it will stay now. I might even sell it.

I clicked the buy button on the following today:

Levers
Rear sets
Exhaust hanger
Seat vinyl (I will recover the seat I have as can't find a cheap replacement)
Keyless fuel cap

That's taken spending up to £284.67 and total of £1175.67.

I've found a clock bracket for £70 but it's still twice what I want to pay Laughing

I've measured up for the amount of vinyl to wrap the bike so just need to price that up.

Hopefully get a couple of hundred back for the road stuff.

Thanks for the link mate - that's the guide i used too! I'm 11 stone so used that as a base and tweaked from there and got it handling great. Glad it sorted the 30mph weave out!

Apologies - 10 stone... Laughing

Is the clock bracket a requirement for running track fairings or can they be used with standard bracket?

The clocks attach to the headlight rather than the fairing bracket so there's nothing left when you remove the headlight.

If you've got some aluminum you can probably shape a price and drill some holes and attach it to the existing fairing bracket. You'd probably have to cut the bracket down a bit. Depends how mcuh hassle you want...

Is it not a requirement for noise testing to have a rev counter?

I will likely be using this to rag around the local roads every now and then so i want a speedo. You should also have a rev counter for noise tests...

I ended up splashing out on a clock bracket from Silverback Engineering, nice chap. Its now fitted with clock attached although i did not get a picture and have not checked the fitting with the fairing.

Decided on the vinyl route rather than rattle canning. I've gone for a sort of matte electricy blue. The lowers will be black. I've wrapped a couple of small bits on the k6 (mudguard, hugger and tank infills in carbon) but never done anything of a decent size.

What a load of fuck.

Started on the seat unit. I really wanted to do each unit in one piece to avoid seams. After doing the tail in one piece I've decided ill be happy to have seams!

It shows every imperfection in the fiberglass but its decent enough. I figured that it should be easy enough to patch up when it gets knocked about. Cocked it up a little just behind the seat but i figured a bump stop will cover that Laughing

When i thought it was going on easy:
https://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh163/adam673673/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG-20160720-WA0007_zps77cbny2z.jpg

Finished article in the daylight. Much more electric!:
https://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh163/adam673673/Mobile%20Uploads/20160721_081030_zpskgfzgcxl.jpg

You can see the patch at that angle quite easily.

I'm happy enough with that. I am however dreading doing the tank.

https://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh163/adam673673/Mobile%20Uploads/20160720_232818_zps0o0kgd5y.jpg

Total now is £434.54 for parts and £1325.54 total Shocked

However i THINK i'm done spending. It will just be service items over winter. (shims/braided hoses/pads/tyres and maybe re-do the oil).

I've also got the road bits for sale which ill subtract from the price Thumbs Up

I tried vinyl wrapping once. Fuck me what a ballache. If you get it right though it looks great!

I'm hopefully taking delivery of some track fairings tomorrow! Might have to bodge my clocks on somehow. How much was your bracket?

I'm also thinking of just leaving the clocks on for noise testing then just taking them off?
