right, the bike has been sitting idle, waiting for bits for a while now, the shipment arrived late last night, and the chaos continued
graeme france the guy i get my 400 bits off, helped me change the shock, in about 11.5 mins, it was quite inspiring to watch, especially in a dark garage with torches
https://www.giffould.com/gallery/albums/userpics/newshock2.JPG
here is the finished result, after all torqued up, and ready to go, its an early CBR600 shock, with a remote reservoir (so fully adjustable) and a re-machined linkage so it will fit the CBR400 Gull, it raises the ride height by about 10-15mm at the back i believe. supported the weight of the bike by attached a tie down type strap to my garage roof, another thing that was impressive to work, and changing the shock was an easier job than i expected, once the subframe is off, 3 bolts and a bit of fiddling and jobs a goodun
i ordered a new subframe, as mine was very corroded and rusty with bits breaking off, and i also asked for it to be powercoated black, so as to not have the corrosion problem again
https://www.giffould.com/gallery/albums/userpics/oldnewsubframe.JPG
a lovely job i think you will agree, and after a quick scrub of the tatty undertray thingy
https://www.giffould.com/gallery/albums/userpics/cleaningundertray.JPG
its fitted back into the subframe and, mounted onto the bike, back end looking more bike like already
https://www.giffould.com/gallery/albums/userpics/newsubframeon1.JPG
i had an adjustment to make to the rear brake lever position and a new bit to fit to aid me in this, but i couldnt get the system apart, so just removed the whole system from the bike in anger, and left it at that for the rear brake
next the front forks, they are standard CBR400 forks with re-worked valving and race tech springs, sposed to be the dog danglies, dont ask about the price
despite a slight weeping on the left hand seal, i installed them anyway, because i needed to convince myself that i knew where the bolts all over my garage floor went
let us begin https://www.giffould.com/gallery/albums/userpics/puttingforksback1.JPG
a fair bit of cursing, pulling back out, and trying to work out how the hell they will end up straight, true and not twisted, and without bending the top yoke
https://www.giffould.com/gallery/albums/userpics/howthefuck.JPG
got there in the end, dropped through by a further 10mm over honda's standard to quicken the steering up, bars back on too, but no switch gear, or electronic garbage (my least favourite part) yet, but one thing at a time
https://www.giffould.com/gallery/albums/userpics/forksbackin3.JPG
called it a day there, as was getting tired, and a numb arse, plenty of problems to address still, awaiting delivery of the front wheel, which is away getting power coated, the rear will need doing at some point, brakes need addressing, and the whole suspension needs a test ride, and setting up the preload, damping, compression and all that crap, but as far as fitting, my chassis should be pretty much sorted
all manner of dirt, grease, seized bolts, and an oil leak still to sort, but, that'll do it for now, my garage floor looks more like a garage floor now rather than a tasty nut catalogue
was falling asleep anyway

Wow, thats so cool! Wish i could afford one of those. Your bike will be wicked after all this!!!
Its gonna handle so damn good . It will make a stock one feel wobbly, even though they are quite good...
Ps Pics dont load up. Can you just post a pic of the shock in the bike so i can see it, instead of me having to open up the link. Links dont work with me. |
