I must try one of these. Just for comparison. Nice bike mate. Love the colour and matte finish ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha

Unfortunately the MT-07 is built to a budget and it shows when servicing.A number of people that I know have them and when it came to investigating a noise from the suspensuion we found little or no grease in the suspension pivots and the headrace bearings. While the forks were out we drained the watery fork oil and flushed with some cheap fork oil before installing some better quality oil.
The spark plugs are a pig to get to and we are not looking forward to checking the valve clearances as there is not much room to move under the tank.
The Haynes manual is a worthwhile investment ____________________ Just talk bikes. What else is there?

Seriously it does.
Yamaha have made absolutely no progress in the naked litre section in the last 20 years.
The MT-10 SP is only a few tenths faster around a track than the Street Triple, and that was Rutter riding it around Donny, where power should be an advantage, so if there was an advantage to the 10 [SP at that] he would have found it.
It's short, and based on a sportsbike originally designed to be ridden with clip ons, so it has compromised geometry and wheelies a lot. Do not confuse this with being quick.
Here's a couple of dyno graphs for comparison:

FZ1000s -
Can't find a stock dyno graph, but trust me it makes just as much power as both bikes above, even on carbs.
I get pissed off with the MT-10 being punted about as 'good', it's middling-average mediocrity at best.
PS, the MT-07 is really good fun, once you've spent 1500 quid on the suspension, just like the MT-09. ____________________ Bikes: too many, too much for one man to maintain anyway. |
