You don't get more than a noddy-car for £200 nowadays.

Best advice - budget for a thorough de-scratching and clean before you give it back as the bastards always charge for bits they argue are more than just wear and tear. I have leased for a few years now and on average it costs me an additional £300 at the end.

Also, think carefully about your mileage. You don't want a lease for fewer miles than you actually do as they will make an additional charge per mile.

Don't smoke in it or let other people smoke in it because they will charge for fag-damage and a smell of smoke.

Other than that it is still the best way to drive a new car for relatively little outlay....

Just bought a new-ish car, was cheaper to just find a sensible dealer with low rates than lease. Spent a few weeks nosing around.

Ended up paying ~330pm on a 2020 Tucson, nicest trim possible, low miles. Needs to last 5 years before we become electric drivers.

Leasing was good when interest rates were almost zero. I get the impression that leasing a car now would be pretty dumb.

You're better off saving a few grand and buying a solid SH car for cash I reckon.

I realise not everybody has the luxury of dropping 3 or 4k but I think it's the best move if you do have that option.

Im thinking the whole lease culture is just part of teaching us to have lower aspirations and accept drifting back into pre war mass poverty. I noticed a company advertising "leasing" home technology, are we really going back to the days where you rented the telly? I think so and its a bad thing.

See how much actual car loan repayments would cost in comparison. Then it's your car and you can ram as many cyclists and do as many miles as you want and it's your car at the end of it.

For private ownership I cannot see the benefits.
After three years payments, walk away the proud owner of Hee-Haw.
Pay an extortionate sum to buy outright.
Or start a new sentence/contract.

It's attractive for business use as there's no capital investment in something that may need to by fluid.

But then the investment you make and if you borrow to invest, you save tax. (Or something incentivising)

AFAIK Yamaha motorcycles profits are split 50/50: selling bikes and selling financial agreements.
