Is it points ignition? Sounds like the timing has slipped. Check the marks line up properly. If it is a CDI ignition, ignore this.

Hmmm, difficult to describe, easy to point to. Under the left hand engine cover you will find the flywheel for the alternator (which generates the electricity). If it is a points ignition, there will be a set of points mounted somewhere in the middle of the flywheel.

It would take ages to describe how to check your static timing in laymans talk if it is a points ignition but it is not difficult. There are good pictures in a workshop manual.

Points look like this, the brown plastic bit presses against the cam on the bolt in the middle of the flywheel (which turns round with the engine):

Or you can tell us what year it is Smile. I think anything post 1990 or around then has a CDI ignition.

Anyhow, tell us a bit more info, like: Has it been sitting for awhile? Did you have any trouble the last time it ran? It could really be any of a wide array of problems, so the more information the better.

Most likely it's just a case of blockage in your carburator, though.

Well, the first thing I'd do is strip and clean the carburator. Just gotta make sure everything is nice and tight when reassembled Smile.
