I've been playing with an idea to create a bit more impact into my photo's.
some are here. Please comment:
(these pictures are not very sharp, but it's the composition I'm thinking about)

more to follow.

I like the last one, the way the background gives the impression of speed but the bike is so clear. Thumbs Up

Baldy:
That's an effect called panning, it's achieved by slowing down the shutter speed to about 1/125 and then tracking the bike with the camera and then taking the shot whilst continuing to pan with the bike. It's very effective and gives a great sensation of speed.

Palmerz:
The rally car was an orinignal pic, I just saw the angles whilst shooting and took loads of different ones.

The pic of Maurice, I rotated in photoshop, however will be trying to take more angular shots the next time I go out for some track photography.

Loply: thanks

Some really nice pics I do really like the composition on the rally car shot Very Happy The best thing really is to learn panning shots, when you have the bike/car/thingy in perfect focus and the background just a speed blur your laughing. Heres my efforts from Beaulieu last year, not really done anything else like this since though Sad but hey you might get some ideas from them Wink

Swaffs - What gear, camera e.t.c. are you useing for these shots? I'm quite tempted by a new camera Shocked

Useing a minolta mx300, the only downside is its not digital, appart from that its perfect Rolling Eyes as a result it seldom comes out of hideing...

Any suggestions?

Zero,
I'm using a Canon EOS 300D with 18-55 and 75-300 lenses
although I'm relly looking to getting some L series lense f2.8 (but there over a grand a piece!) hence why I'm hoping to be selling trackday pictures very soon.

Project:
Yeah Panning is good and really does give a good sense of speed, here's some of my panning images;

Project, I've just seen some of your 'deviations' nice. I love that site.

I would 100% recomend getting a Canon SLR, I've been using a Canon 10D for the past year now and it is one hell of an amazing camera, just make sure you get some good lenses though Wink

Aye, you have some good shots!

I am looking at 20D or 10D really, 300d and d70 don't appeal that much, but the problem is a 20d will cost me 1k, the 10d is about £680 with battery grip and no lense.

Have a look at 2nd hand 10D's, there should be loads around as everyone has traded in for the 20D. £680 with a battery grip sounds like a really good price for a 10D.

Don't bother with the 300D and D70. The 300D has a poo plastic body and not many functions, but then has all the workings of the 10D inside. But the D70 is so hiddiously crap I wouldn't touch it with a 10ft barge poll, the ISO starts at 200 and can't handle images over 400ISO (looks like a picture from camera phone).

I just bought a Bronica SQ 120 camera today for just £388 secondhand so you just have to look out for bargins. Have a look on the 2nd hand pages of www.jessops.com there should be a few on there.

How do you do "panning"

Do you have to follow the moving object equally?

The difference between the 20D and 10D are:

High ISO quality.
The fact the 10D has been discontinued.
And of course finally Cost!

Thats it, you trail it while it is in focus, aslong as you keep moving at the same rate when you take the picture you end up with the brilliant resuls shown here.

Don't worry Will the 10D isn't too bad at 3200ISO.

At the mo I have 3 lenses:

1) Peleng 6mm fisheye, not very good quality but a fun lens.
2) Canon 28-135mm USM IS ultrasonic, top glass Thumbs Up
3) Sigma 300mm f4 macro, not the best of lenses but still good.

Would like to get a few more but I'm far from rich Sad

I'll probably be looking for new lenses for my Bronny at the mo.

Thanks for the help Smile. Going to have to look at lenses and other bits but a S/H 10D should be fine Smile.
