(dunno where this should be but figured any photogrphers would be lurking in here)

Being the weido i am i still prefer useing a manual camera and an equivilent digital camera is way out of my price range (£500 cannon d300 fwarrr)

At the minute i'm haveing negatives put on cd at £6 a go, which is ok but still pricey (usualy do 2/3/4 films at a time) which put me off ever takeing any pictures... but developing is only £2, allot better...

I was thinking what are film scanners like nowdays? last time i looked they were hugely expensive and not really all that good, i'm after somehting that would give the resoloution similar to that of a decent 4mp camera but not cost more than £100 idealy...

Ive seen them for reasonable prices and they say they are good but they allways do... anyone got/used a decent one?

Have you tried a conventional scanner, and then using imaging software to invert the colours? I've no clue as to whether that would work or not, but it's an idea.

Jessops do a negative scanner for £100 - details click here

I've seen the output from one of these and was quite impressed.
Without being a professional that could justify a £500 price tag it's the one I'll be buying to archive off all the family snaps.

I think it also needs some 'touch-up' software like PhotoShop or Paint Shop Pro to do some post-scan cleanup.

The scanner itself I believe is just a badge job, it's available under different makes so maybe able to get a cheaper price.

HTH Thumbs Up

Just think of it this way, pay lots in short term, save lots in the long term.

Problem is you have to pay for decent paper too. Smile

FYI the dabs is an epson flat bed with negative scanner attachment.
Jessops is a dedicated 35mm negative scanner.

You pay yer money and you takes your choice.
IMHO and for what it's worth having seen output from a flatbed attachment and the dedicated, I'll go with the dedicated.
I already have a flatbed so no conflict. If you haven't then you have options.

Really want to avoid a flatbed, the one i have is allready takeing up too much room Razz (used it what? 3 times?)

Whatever i get will have to do for a few years :/ shame the digital slrs are so godamn expensive Sad but a good film scanner is a comprimise, i can do allot more film for less money that way..

oddly its very rare i print anything, but again the wonders of asda, the photoprinting there is fairly cheap and no messing about with paper or ink (when you add that with the cost of the printer it works out better for me just to get a cd ready and do a load there)

Thanks for the replys though, its given me more to ponder Thumbs Up
