I did get some funny looks
And I lost half the body clips on the motorway, chasing ZXr400er at 95mph when he knew I had a truck on the back that I didn't want to lose at high speed on the motorway ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |

Claud 14.7 to 1 wrote: | Yer cool! What's it like compared to the old 400? Power/speed/handling |
I think it's a very very under-rated bike IMO.
The build quality is often moaned about.. however.. mines fine It looks as good build wise as my R6 did, I don't know how it'd hold up if it wasn't looked after, but mines been treated VERY well and looks excellent all round, the plastics fit together nicely, everything is neat and well finished IMO - it is a "cheap" bike, but the build quality is still plenty good enough.
Speed... again, people say it's slow.. but I don't think it is really.. it's plenty fast enough for road riding, it may not be a track race winner but it's got useable low end and mid range speed, lacks top end, but come on!! How often do you honestly want 140 ++ mph? I prefer the gruntier low end and midrange to be honest. Also it's VERY easy to ride slowly in traffic, it's smooth and you don't have to fuck about slipping the clutch all the time like the R6 often did.
The SV can be ridden very smoothly. I like the gearbox, best gearbox I've had on a bike actually.. very smooth and NO clunks at all.
Handling, well mines got a ZX636 rear shock fitted, so I can't really comment on standard bike handling.. mine feels great, the front ends a bit twitchy BUT that's the shit touring tyres on it... the SV feels nice and stable, sort of confidence inspiring I guess.. would be better with some decent tyres on though.
Compared to my ZXR? Well I prefer it a lot more.. it's physically bigger, but not TOO big.. it's very comfortable (although I do have a nice gel seat fitted!) I think it's slightly faster than a sports 400.. I don't think it's *much* faster though. But that's what I like about it.. you can ride it harder without doing silly speeds, just like a 400..
So, it has the benefits of the 400's road-rideability and agility along with the comfort and cruising ability of a 600. It's a great all round bike. Good fun as well as being a good commuter/long distance bike.
I think I prefer it more than my R6. It has more character. But then, it's the v-twin thing that makes it such a great bike. I love v-twins and always wanted a VTR storm, but the running costs would have been too much so I went for an SV. And I don't regret it either, it's economical to run, about 150 or so miles to a tank and generally a great all round bike.
Sorry for long post.. just you sound like you want one ?? I don't know, but I say it anyway.
Lastly, I think it looks great... will be better with a dark tint screen, carbon race can and bellypan though! (soon!)

If you want to know any more about it, just ask...
p.s. before anyone comments how the above is wrong/youknow better/im talking bollocks or whatever, jsut realise it's MY opinon of MY bike.. and I like it ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |

The worse way to break them is to drive them into a moving car wheel. Learn from my experience and dont do it |

Yeah, agreed, needs a bellypan in my opinion
Love the sv650s with the full fairing on and it's most likely what I'll buy next, might even get one in the summer(see what my insurance company say)
There's a lot for sale on ebay just now. And all going for bugger all money. Having said that, it's no honda hornet but I don't think it's supposed to be.
Bet that quill exhaust sounds great too!! Lovely burble.
I expect to see this bike in your next video!!
I'd put in a bid for this if I had the money (under inspection of course )

Pretty much all you say in your post is right Yams, except when you had a supermoto, I'm sure I explained that an SV can do all those things an SM can, with better practicality and comfort!
The build quality is poor, mine corroded to death after a year and a half, but it might only get to a point and then stay like that... IE not get any worse.
Mine wheelied well, and you could stoppie it if you put enough force behind the lever. It had a better riding postion than an SM, and downgeared would easily be as much fun IMO. Knee down was doable, although I wasn't really bothered when I had it.
Really its a good proposition.
Here are the commonalities with a supermoto:
Light.
Grunty engine.
stuntable.
fun.
but without the following (that you get with a supermoto):
Poor reliability
poor comfort
no wind protection
poor tank range
expensive and frequent servicing.
IMO SV = Win, but I can't say I like the paintscheme. ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F

I don't like the full lower fairings myself, but I do like bellypans.. I've found a real nice one, but gotta get it sprayed to match etc. ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |

Marjay, why compare the KTM to the SV?
They are completely uncomparable
I didn't buy the SV to be like a supermoto, I bought it to be like an SV.
The SV isn't a replacement for the KTM. Supermotos aren't meant to be comfortable, they aren't meant to be practical.. I didn't buy a supermoto to use it to commute on or do long distance. (that's why I got SV )
The KTM is being rebuilt and tuned by a race team / shop.. having head work done, cam, different valves, 05 conversion + race can, dyno set up and rear shock rebuilt, as well as new plastics and stuff.
No sports bike will ever live up to, or compare to the KTM!!! They are completely different. I'd love to race the SV at a southern supermoto round
I can see what you're saying, for road use that the SV does wheelies and stuff like a supermoto does. But that's not what it's about.
That's like saying a ford escort does what a lotus elise does, because it can cruise at 70 as well as being practical and cheaper to run..
As I say about build quality, it's good at the min as mine is pretty mint (despite 31k miles!) but mines never really been ridden though winter so nothings corroded other than a bolt or two.. maybe if I still have it next winter I will think differently to the build quality though
Anyway, It's a bike.. it does bikey things. When it comes down to it, my money goes into the KTM as that's what I am in to and I wouldn't give up supermoto just because "the sv does what the supermoto does" as it completely doesn't! ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |

Here's the KTM at the minute
https://www.cwimedia.co.uk/other/misc/Bike%20Pics/My%20KTM%20450%20EXC/KTM%20Engine%20Damage/1.jpg
p.s. Marjay, I respect that you like sports bikes over supermotos etc.. but you gotta respect the fact supermotos = win for me.. When I was asking you about the SV before, I appriceate your help and thats what made me eventually buy one as you rated them highly and I trust your opinions, as although it's not a replacement for the KTM, I wanted something *fun* for the road as well as practical, as the KTM will be a track bike as of August (insurance runs out) so it won't get used as much and I don't want to give up road riding.
Your advice to me so far has been 100% correct, it is as fun as you mentioned and does everything you said which I'm happy about.. but it will never live up to the KTM ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |

lovely bike mate great colour too.
I prefer the newer shape SV's as they look more angular, but i would still happily kill for yours
Hope it treats you well, and doesnt go the way of the RC truck [img][/img] ____________________ Its Not a Melon, Its Clearly a Lime!!
