Hi all,

I have a CBF600 SA-5 (2006) 12,000 miles which I sadly bumped front end - pretty bad!
I've managed to get hold of some parts but am still looking at a total bill of around £1,500 to get this back on the road.
The damage means new:
pipes, fender and fairings, clock surround and upper stay.
The rest of the bike is in excellent condition as its been garaged.
Looks like I could buy a second hand version for between £1,800 and £2,500 instead of paying for the repairs.
If I did this then I've been told to sell the bike to a breaker. The rest of the bike is fab and there are two on ebay being broken with parts totaling around £2,000 on each bike. Clearly a breaker needs to make a profit and won't sell all the parts so what should I expect to get for the bike?
Or should I stick with what I know and pay for the repairs?

I'm at an age where I can't make a decision to save my life!!!

Thanks all

How on earth are you spending £1800 on repairs?

Are you getting somebody else to do it?

My CBR600FX was involved in a big crash. In the end it cost about £450 to fix it up completely. It had a wrecked front end.

I totted up the price to fix the CBR600F4i and that only went up to £800 with a fairing from China.

Essentially fix it up yourself for the experience. Granted I like to build things. At the end of it you'll learn a lot and also be able to fix things from the experience in the future. Hell you've already got the parts.

It's just bits of plastic and metal bolted together. The most painful bit will be downpipe replacement.

Take a hint from several of the old guys on here. They say dremmel off the nuts on the studs and or use nut splitters. Don't take the studs out as getting them out is a risky and frustrating process.

How badly are the fairigs damaged? Are we talking shattered or cracked.

Are there insurance considerations?

The front fairings are definitely gone hence the high costs.
£439 alone just for the front and left front fairing.
£264 for the 2 stancions
£92 for the front fender
£90 for upper stay
£62 for clock surround.
£350 labour
These are main costs.

I managed to find headlight and front cowl on eBay. There's a set of fenders but not great condition and wouldn't save too much.

I don't mind having a go myself but can't find the parts as the grey markets have CBR not CBF parts.

Very frustrating as I was 3rd party only and the rest of the bike looks fab!

Gonna maybe start calling round bike breakers in case they don't all use eBay.

Use part finder websites.

If it's costing you that much to repair, buy a similar one for the same price and use your crashed one as spares for it Thumbs Up
