An old topic, but cannot seem to find answers.

On the bike manual (for a gixer 6) the recommened tire pressure is 36 front and rear. But I have read in places like MCN where they say the manufacturers recommended tire pressures are in fact not suitable for road use and that the correct pressure should be around 42 since on road the tire temperatures are much lower than the track based recommendations.

So what tire pressure is the correct setting? And what is everyone using?

Short answer.. It needs experimenting with...

Useing too high a pressure will make the tyre profile wrong, you'll have less conctact on the road than you should, and can perminently deform the tyre, too low a pressure will have a similar effect, and make them overheat.. i may be wrong but i'd be sticking reasonably closely to the reccomended..

Try playing with the pressures +/- 5psi, see what effects it has...

If you check the tyre walls it will list the maximum pressure under max load..

Whats your tyre brand? metzler have a part on their site where you put in your tyres and your bike then it gives you have the pressure should be...? worth a go

When it comes down to it.. if manufacturers could improve the handleing of their bikes just by saying you should use "x"pressure then they would!
