|
|
Just wondered what comments were on the new(ish) Think! campaign to get car drivers to take longer to look for bikes.
DoT link here
The "how close" advert is here (mpg file).
"Don't Take It In audio mp3 (radio advert?) is here.
There are also 2 posters, one aimed at drivers, the other at urban bikers, for outside garages. Have a look here and here.
If this question posted before let me know the link. Thanks.
FWIW the older advert mpg file 'perfect day" is here. For some reason that one always made me smile ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...

I agree with you there Simple, there's no way you can see the bike in the first clip.
I find the radio advert ironic - most people will hear it in their cars, where it will most likely have the unintended effect of distracting the driver's attention from the road.

Poorly made
That still isn’t the point, I know I’m not the only one who’s crashed on here FFS I was simply pointing out that I would rather see a mock up situation than watching a real video of it happening to a biker just for the purpose of an advert.
From the drivers perspective it is pretty scary, the normal road situation and then the massive whack on the car and then the look of “What the fu*k do I do now?!” kind of thing should hit home to some people. ____________________ Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.

Yeah, the likes of you and me know that, you can’t do anything about it though.
I just didn’t see why you were arguing against the advert which is just put out in a bid to safe a few people. ____________________ Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.

I do think that it helps some drivers remember that there are bikers out there.
At the point that the car driver got to the junction, he would have been thinking "Check for cars", as we are so relativly small in numbers.
At least for a while, some people will think of bikers.
IN fact! Ive just rememberd there was an advert on in the cinema about bike awareness, about halfway through the lights came on, and a man came into the cinema hall. He asked if a Mrs XXXX was here, to which a woman in the front row said that it was her.
The man asked the woman to come with him please, and she started getting arsy saying that shed paid for her ticket and wasnt going anywhere.
The man then spoke to her quietly, and you could hear a police radio going off round the corner. The woman then burst into tears, and started shouting, i told him not to get that stupid bike!
They then escorted the woman out, and i was left a bit shocked. About ten seconds later the man came back in again, and explained to everyone that the woman was an actor, but the situation is one that happens all too often. He then asked us to all drive home safely, and the bike awareness advert was played again....
That was about 5 years ago now i think but it only seems relevant now that i ride. |

i think those Think! ads are alright. it doesn't matter how well they are put together, they are put together well enough and thats what matters. they always make me stop and think for a few moments, and im sure its the same for most other people.
the radio ad is really good though |

i am 42 tears old bought my first bike new in '84 an rd 200 yam.had it 8 months got hit by a car pulling out of a junction - result - broken leg, broken arm, punctured lung,5 broken ribs cuts & bruises & a written off bike.
3 years later i got another bike rd 500 lc yam had it 6 months got hit by a car pulling out of a junction - result - cuts & bruises & a very fucked bike.
gave up motorcycling until 2005 did direct access & bought a vstar 1100 classic brand spanking new.no accidents as yet but am extremely cautious when approaching junctions.
i reckon any adverts which draw attention to motorcycle safety is a good thing, there should be more posters on buses etc.but saying that, anticipation by us lot & correct road positioning would help.
sorry to ramble on |
