I'm considering doing the novice track-evening at Cadwell but was just wondering what the score is with helmets.

I have a Shoei X-Spirit bought last year from Hein Gericke but after a few months the gold ACU sticker was flapping about so I pulled it off. Naturally it left behind the water-mark, but I wiped this off too Confused

So, will I be ok with the helmet on the track. Naturally it still says Shoei X-Spirit on the back, and I have receipts to proove it is geniune, but am I likely to have problems?

Cheers in advance, Anthony.

If a helmet has been damaged in some way that makes it fail scruitny, the scruitineers will sometimes remove the sticker. (oddly, the sticker belongs to the ACU and continues to do so even though the helmet is yours).

The absence of the sticker could be taken to imply that the helmet has failed scruitineering for some reason in the past and will thus fail it again.

Never seen them checked in the many trackdays I've been to.

For actual racing at ACU sanctioned race meetings they do, but that's another matter.

Oh and you can get a replacement, know you can from an official at a race meeting, but not really worth the hassle unless you are racing.
I did ten or so trackdays with a stickerless helmet.

I've done 2 trackdays with helmets without the sticker.

Even had the helmet examined at one of them after a crash, was never mentioned.

You can get them from race officials as mentioned above or have it sent to the ACU to be examined. But also as previosuly said, there are hardly ever any checks at track days. Hell, they barely look over your bike, if at all. I only once got told off for using dead slicks because I was talking to an organiser about the tyres in question! when I say told off, I really mean a kind word of safety! Thumbs Up

I have heard that suppliers or manufacturers of helmets are normally willing to supply replacement gold ACU stickers for those who need them.

Worth asking them me thinks! Thumbs Up

I got one delivered for £12 from ebay.

I guess it's a gamble if it was worth it or not.

As said, it'll only be useful if you're racing, but <shrugs>, it's your money Smile.

For the record, I hink they're about a fiver from 'offical' people.
