It's a press release, so it'll read funny (and is probably full of mistakes!) Wink Laughing

26/03/06
For immediate release

Calcot based bike racer Dave Giffould got his 2006 season underway at Snetterton in Norfolk this weekend, in the opening round of the BMCRC Clubman Mini-twin Championship.

This season Giffould has moved into the mini-twin series, riding a Suzuki SV650 instead of the Yamaha R6 that he used in the Rookie 600 series in 2005.

His weekend got off to a tricky start with a minor crash during free practice on Friday. The set-back cost him some of the precious track time to get himself and the bike fully up to speed for the rest of the weekend.

However, with very little damage done to the bike, he was able to get it repaired and ready for qualifying and racing on Saturday and Sunday.

A qualifying position of 24th - out of 34 riders - in the opening race meant that he had his work cut out. A great start meant he was up into 13th position by the end of the opening lap. A steady but frustrating rest of the race meant that he moved back down the order slightly, taking 19th at the chequered flag, just outside the points scoring places.

In the second race of the day, starting form the finishing position of the previous race, he made good use of the dry and sunny conditions and came home 14th, picking up his first points of the season.

Overnight rain on Sunday meant a decision had to be made before the first race of the day for wet or dry tyres. The option of dry proved to be a wise choice as Dave managed to make up another place on a drying but slippery track to finish 13th and collect more points.

In the final race of the weekend he almost broke into the top ten. However, after a race long battle with a rival he took the chequered flag in 11th place.

A relieved but frustrated Giffould was pleased to have got through the opening round of the season.

“It wasn’t a brilliant weekend but I was treating it more as a practice and testing session to be honest as I haven’t had time before the start of the season to get the bike fully sorted,” he said.

“It was frustrating to have the crash on Friday, but at least it didn’t do any damage and I made progress throughout the weekend, which was what I was aiming for. I’ll be going out to take up where I left off and move further up the grid at the next round,” he added.

Dave will be in action at the Kent circuit of Lydden Hill on the weekend of 8/9 April.

About £15 for a day of 20 races or so. Though we often get people in for free by devious means.

Well done G, top stuff Thumbs Up

When's the Brands round? I'm sure some of the SE lot would be up for a day's racing and come and show some support.

Easiest way to get in free at Snetterton is just not to stop at the gate where you pay.

Just carry on riding.

Although do stop and support Bemsee and the tracks...

Glad to see you kept to your standard and got at least one crash in, how did you lose it?

I'm aiming to come and watch a race other than cadwell so if the bikes on the road I might try and come to lydden, not getting my hopes up though. Mad

Thumbs Up

Race report should be up later today when I've got a few pics to add to it Smile.

Hi G and team - you popped your head in the garage on Sunday G, so I thought I'd visit this forum and see what you're up to. I didn't realise you'd joined us in the Minitwin frenzy; a fine choice especially looking at all the running problems you had with that 6 last year. Looks like some good results, well done.

Personally I've been bumped straight from rookie to MRO level - in the Dyna Pro classs, so we won't be sparring until you get into the top 4 and get to join us. I had my first running problems with my bike too - it's been on 63bhp for the last couple of race meetings - only discovered on a dyno run after the last race - I thought I was just being crap!! Problems resolved (3 of them) and hopefully I'll be better that 25th (arghhh) at Lydden.

H there, was gonna go over and say 'hi', but a bit busy.

My 'reliable' minitwins have already had their first problem - both of them dumped their coolent into the sump thanks to 'core plugs' popping out.

Watched a couple of dyna-pro races and noticed you were lagging behind.

See you at lydden Smile.

Yup sure will... I think an aim to be mid-pack by mid-season at MRO level is a reasonable goal. Still, kinda frustrating not to be in the running for a few pots in the clubman (when the bike's running OK).
See you next weekend Thumbs Up
