Hi. Im not exactly new to bikes, as I owned an nsr 125, rode it for three weeks, and it got nicked. Insurance is paying out soon (still not sure of how much) but my local bike dealer who I previously bought my nsr from, has offered me a Honda XR 125 2005 (not sure if 0 or 5) with 147miles on the clock, in near perfect condition for 1600 (still has a years honda warranty left) Now Ive never ridden one of these bikes before, and wondered what everyones opinions are on them. Im not looking for anything as good as my nsr was, but I want it to last me a few years. Any opinions? good/bad bike?

Pleease dont reply with "get a dt mate, theyre way better" I know they are better in the speed stakes being a 2t, but just want verified opinions on the xr please. Cheers everyone, you'll be helping a biker in need.

Well to start with, I have never ridden one, but I know a few people who have.

It is a very easy bike to get along with, comfy, easy to ride, etc. It goes well enough, and can do very light off road stuff, but any sort of jumping, big rocks or deep mud will probably be well out of it's remit.

The motor will go for longer then you will, and nothing will ever need doing that you can't do at home, that's it's main advantage over a DT, it just won't need a rebuild, it's a tough motor, and isn't very highly strung.

There are loads of full licence holders round me who commute on them, so that must say something. At that price, I would be very tempted if I was in your position.

Good luck, and let us know what happens mate. Wink

Cheers mate, very helpful Smile Ive read the same sorta thing around the web. Even though Ive heard a few people that own them, there doesnt seem to be much of a following on the net. My guessing is that its an average bike, not absolutely brilliant, but does its job well. Well, if it gets me back on the road, I think I'll go for it. It just wont be the same as my nsr....I suppose I can wheelie this bike a bit easier though Very Happy

only problem as with all offroads is to make sure you lock it up good as the chavs will have it over the fields in no time

Had one as a courtesy bike a couple of weeks ago.

Was a hoot in town, so thin and easy to filter with, but it did feel rather gutless on the dual carrigeway. But to be fair, I ride a CBR6 usually so it was bound to.

Liked it, could see it being fun for arsing around on, very light too.

I had one as my first bike. I loved it. Was good for the commute, albeit a bit weak on the dual carraigeways as has been mentioned. They're well built and will last forever. That's a pretty good price too. Only thing that bothered me was not having a rev counter. Buy it in the black if you can, looks better than in the red imo.

HI i had a red and a black ones as an insurane courtesy bike For the best part of two months. They don't look to bad in red, white or just black to me
Very reliable, easy to ride good bike i woundn't mined having one again.
They have a top speed of about 50 or 60 mile an hour depending how they are geared. But one time i had the wind behind me and got 70 out of it not bad to say the engine nearly the same as the cg's mabe geared diffenty. But accerate slow after about 45 mile an hour

Had one for a year, it was very fun, search for my posts as i'm not really bothered to type it all up. Had a whole host of adventures on it, did mayday on it last year etc. Ride is okay, town work is cool, it takes pillions fine. I got on with it, but it was just too slow for what i wanted - a 100mph bike it is not Crying or Very sad. A reliable play toy, it is, it wheelies and stoppies, some people on bcf that tried my bike said that it was a hoot and i'd say it's the easiest learner bike to get on with.

That's an absolute bargain Shocked . You'd be mad not to take it, even if it's a '00 and not '05.
