After going on the novice track evening last week at Cadwell, I have to say I've definately got the bug. Everything seemed to make a lot more sense whilst out on the track. I've taken my bike out for a couple of rides since and I just haven't got the bottle now, the roads seem crap, the traffic is crap, the fear of losing my licence etc.
Only 12 people turned up so everyone got chance to get 1-1 tuition with one of the 2 instructors there. One I recognised as being a 'BIKE' journo. We had 3 20 minute sessions, after which it got very cold. The weather was glorious, the only warm day for the past 3-4 weeks, and the sun stayed out all evening
All in all a very good intro into track riding. All very calm and relaxed. Popped back again on Sunday to watch another event and it was a different story though, track bikes, motor-homes, generators etc. everywhere. Far more intimidating, but now I've done one, it wouldn't bother me anymore.
I've booked a day in June at Cadwell, and I'm hoping to do Donnington with a riding-school voucher I got for christmas.
I have mad thoughts at the moment, along the lines of, sell the ZX6r, buy a cheap track bike for £1k and use the money saved for a track day every month I have a van anyway for work, no need to insure it if it will be only on the track, plus I would ride it harder due to the costs being lower if I binned it.
I would miss being able to nip out on the bike for an hour though |
