For immediate release
A beautiful sunny weekend at Kent’s Brands Hatch circuit, saw Dartford based motorcycle racer Mark Gomersall enjoy a great weekends racing.
Riding his Suzuki GSXR 600 in the British Motorcycle Racing club (BMCRC) Rookie 600 class, this was his second ever race weekend, having missed the first 3 rounds due to a broken thumb after crashing at Brands during the opening practice round in March.
Mark was determined not to let his lack of racing experience hold him back. After spending some time getting his suspension set up on Friday, the bike was handling well and he was hoping to improve on his times and championship position.
“The time spent with Steve Jordan setting up my suspension has made a big difference. I should have done it ages ago”

Race 1 saw Mark start near the back of the grid of 30+, and a steady start resulted in a 23rd place finish. Some work would still be required to regain confidence at Druids hairpin after the crash.
Race 2 was better, and whilst it was very apparent the pace was much faster than the last time they were at Brands, Mark rode hard and finished in 15th place after a race long battle with (58)Adam Grosch, just one place out of the points.

Gomersall took the opportunity to sign up for an additional 2 races on Sunday, he would be racing in Rookie 600 and Clubman shootout. The Clubman pace was very fast but it would mean some extra race experience.
Race 3 was another tough battle and although he only managed a 20th place finish, partly from a weak start. Mark still managed to gain a personal best lap time.
Both Clubman races were an experience for Mark as they were open races consisting of varied bikes and abilities. Mark finished near the back of the field, but it was important to gain the track time, and once again his lap times were getting quicker and quicker. In the second of those races he finished 14th gaining 2 championship points.
In the final rookie race, Mark was determined to finish on a high. A good start resulted in gaining a few places before Paddock Hill and a confident ride saw him work his way from 20th to 17th, and feeling very positive, and again beating his previous fastest time, recording 54.46 seconds.

Mark now only has a two week break before his next event, this time a little further away, at the Croix En Ternois circuit in Northern France.
“I’m really looking forward to the race at Croix,” said Mark. “It will be a new experience and it’s a circuit that is hopefully new to all the rookies, leveling the field a little. I hope to gain some more points and start to race in the top 10” He added.
