all i know is that they give you more power when they kick in but how do they work!? what makes them kick in? how can you get them fitted (if you can)? can you only get them on 2 strokes?

thanx liam

They are a lot easier to fit if you have a long stand. Ask at your local bike shop if you can borrow one.

It depends. The power band on your bike are 4, 5 and 6 but they go all the way up to 25 (eg YZF R1).

Just phone up your honda dealer or the place were you bought the bike or get it serviced and ask for a size 9 power band. The best ones are the kevlar ones.

AND....if you really want some extra power get the extra 2 strokes for your bike because the power bands work better! Thumbs Up Wink

I am sure Ste can do you a good deal on them.

A power band is not anything that is fitted. It is not a physical component. It refers to the part of the rev range where the power kicks in, normally because that is the point where various bits of tuning start to work.

All the best

Keith

How power bands work

Lesson 1: A power band is something that kicks in when you are at a certain rpm

Lesson 2: They range from size 1 to 25

Lesson 3: For sizes 8 and above you need the 4 strokes and not 2

Lesson 4: They are a specialst job to be fitted as you need to fit them the right way around and you need to make sure you apply enough elbo-grease to get the maximum power out of them

Lesson 5: The more you tighten them when fitted the earlier they kick in.

Lesson 6: They are mostly easily fitted to Yamaha DTs and Honda CRs because they have the better sized burburry nut and clasp

Lesson 7: They run from the engine to the primary sprocket and make the engine rev faster.

To obtain a functional powerband, you need to be good at maths and engineering

Length given by :
https://members.bellatlantic.net/~vze2p5sj/plt.gif

Then you need to work out the diameters using:
https://members.bellatlantic.net/~vze2p5sj/d2.gif

Then do a lot of other maths, cut it out, weld it up, hydraulically form it and you should have a powerband.

As described here:
https://members.bellatlantic.net/~vze2p5sj/expcham.htm

But doesn't that only apply to 2 strokes?

Easyest way is..

Adjust the menstural cycle (halfords sell them if your bike dosn't have one) with a left handed screwdriver, hold it all together with a longweight.

/Have a look at a dyno printout of a typical 2stroke and you'll see a big peak at nearly top revs and a dip after, the higer peaky part is the magical mistical "power band"

Don't be offended Wink you just fell face first, from a great height into a running joke Razz

Like i said, the band would be something like 7000 ro 9000 rpm the revs where the most power is available the "sweet spot" if you like.. never had a 2stroke myself but i'm told to get them really shifting you need to balance it carefully at the right revs (allot todo with backpressure and exhaust design, have a look on how stuff works and search 2stroke)

ok if you are serious, then you should know that you cant fit a power band.

Some engines are tuned to have much more power between certain rev ranges. This is the 'powerband'. Its a charactersitic of the engine, not something you fit to it.

Im still not convinced libo is not a wind up tho.

Don't have a cow man. What would you do at your garage if someone sent an apprentice to you to ask for some elbow grease? You just asked a similar thing.

Yea, sorry mate, we were just having a joke. Couldn't help it.

A power band is just what the guys said above. It's not someting you can change for newer ones. It is a range, a band of were the power is best, like Mr.Z said..the sweet spot.

From what I hear it is or a greater range on a 4 stroke than a 2 stroke.
