Ok i think this is probably the right section for this, its technically off-road after all Laughing

Anyway ive been thinking about this for a long time. Ive done a lot of offroad riding / racing before - grasstrack, speedway and moto-x. Ridden a variation of motorbikes to do this with too.

But i've never done greenlaning, the thing that worries me the most is being pulled over by the police and getting in trouble...

So:

A) Where is it legal for me to ride my bike? What consitutes as a "green lane" now-a-days...

B) Are their any laws for green laning that i need to take into consideration? Speed? Noise? that kind of thing...

C) Where are the best places to find routes? I did try just looking in a OS Map but i got a bit confused as obviously, these kind of lanes dont have big sign posts saying "Hey, You, Bikers wanting to get dirty - follow this sign!"

Think that is it, obviously any extra info you wanna pass on to me would be greatly appreciated Thumbs Up

(Oh yeah, im based in cambridgeshire so if anyone knows any good routes around there that would be a great start!)

Its all pretty simple really

Get a OS Landranger map fot the area you want to ride,

Look for +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ in red

Not all Byways Open to All Traffic (boats) are shown, many have been deleted, missed etc.

Next trip is down the town hall, ask to see the geezer that deals with Public rights of way, he "should" have all the latest info you need, including the stuff that has been recently been closed, that is still shown on OS MAPS Twisted Evil

You need a bike with mot and insurance etc .
Speed limit ! 30mph officer -Honest Very Happy

Dont ride alone, you will fall off alot.
Take back-pack with. Drink.Choccy,Ciggys,First-aid-kit,Phone, Tire weld.

Keep phone in sealed plastic bag, .

Take it easy on you first time, 1 hour was plenty for me without a break.

Failing all that put the bike and gear int a van and head for Salisbury Plain (10 miles away from me Thumbs Up ).

Its fugging great, plenty of room (size of The Isle Of Wight).

Some of it is closed due to tanks and stinking squaddies making a mess of it but most weekends its fine.

Anyone want to play send me a pm .

I did think about putting a post up about a group ride out over the plain but It can sometimes get too complicated.
I will see in the next week if i can sort out a medium , SAFE route with a confirmed date and place. Thumbs Up

browny-red lines are Byways..

https://map1.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/mapportal/mappage.asp

may have to zoom into areas to see them appearing tho...

can't see all tracks at full zoom out
