Hi

I'm looking at a 98 wr 400 as a general get around bike.. anybody have experience of these? Will I be able to reasonably do some fairly big distances on it without needing to do maintenance all the time?

Hi Dusty, I had an 01' WR400.. they are race spec enduro bikes and do take a lot of maintenance, they aren't amazingly fast.. big distance would be suicide Laughing but they are good around town if in supermoto trim. You will need to do a lot of maintenance and looking after.. and they do break, mine had numerous problems... the pre 01 (I think) ones can be a bastard to start! you're better off with something 2001 onwards...

if you want a more all rounder you're much better off with a DRZ400E.. not bad price, ride well and a bit more suited and a bit less maintenance required..

my WR400 was good fun though so I would reccomend one, but only for fun.. Hope it helps...

what sort of maintenance do they need ? is it just frquent oil changes, or do you have to take things apart and do the 4 stroke equivalent of rebuilds or something ?

i had a 30min go on one at the nec and can verify that they are fun. like a souped up bmx

Indeed mate, thanks. Thumbs Up

Think I'll head back to the drawing board then.. me and high maintainace things don't mix too well and I'd really like something that's 'ok' at the mid-long distance stuff as well as round town, I'll take a look at the drz. Smile
