CortezTheKiller's Public Bio |

I grew up in a family which had a love-hate relationship with bikes. My dad loved them and my mother hated them. They got divorced. My whole philosophy of life is based on this phenomenon.
I first got interested in bikes when I was about 3. My dad took me to loads and loads of bike races when I was a kid, mostly road racing but a fair bit of AMCA races as well.
My best memories of these race meetings are:
1. Meeting Mike Hailwood before a race at Mallory Park.
2. Walking with my dad nonchalantly past two very stern Japanese guards into Barry Sheene's motor-home to find him getting changed into his leathers. I was, by all accounts, more interested in Steph (his girlfriend) than by being in the same space as one of my idols.
3. Taking a really cool picture of Dave Thorpe with a crappy camera.
I got my first bike when I was 16 - an MT5, which I kept for a year then got into cars. It wasn't until 20 years later that I finally did my DAS and passed my test.
I got an SV, which I loved for a few weeks and then got bored with. Fortunately, some kind German lorry driver decided he didn't like me and knocked me off my bike, crushing the SV under its wheels. The first thing I remember is running around the front of the truck with my leathers around my knees. I learned never to buy Spada leather trousers as the clasps are crap.
I had an SV650S as my hire bike and really loved the riding position, so I went out and bought myself a ZX636R. I love it, but there's a fair chance it will kill me.
I'm 37, married with a 3 year-old boy who is amazing and keeps me from doing anything stupid on the bike. I work as a Head of English at a school in Staffordshire.
I have a band called Cortez The Killer (hence my user name) and my band's profile is at https://www.myspace.com/cortezspace
That's all folks (no one really reads these things do they?).
