New boots :D

Now that winter's drawing in, and a response team trampling on me to get in a room has mucked up my trusty Magnum Elites, it's time to invest in a new pair of waterproof boots for work/riding.

They arrived today, and they are fookin' great. Solid build, totally waterproof thanks to the Sympatec lining, side zip for easy removal, comfy on the bike and for spending all day running around, Thinsulate to keep my toes toasty, the works

I know G sometimes uses Magnums, anyone else use police/combat style boots, or are you all a load of peeps in weird coloured plastic moon-boots?

I swear by Altbergs on the road, lace up combat style, totally waterproof and warm, great all-day comfort, walk miles in them without problems, and can be worn with jeans etc without looking too out of place.

They look like they could deliver a mean kick to the bollocks. They will come in handy for when an inmate steps out of line and gets beate....i mean falls down the stairs.

Seems a little unfair, most of the poor dears wear flip-flops, I get a bit nervous walking down the corridors in case I amputate some poor fella's toes.

Slightly O/T, but 3 weeks ago a guy DID try to throw himself down the stairs - unfortunately his plan came to a rather anti-climatic end because he tried to throw himself over two huge officers that were in the way - both of whom make me look like a little schoolboy. Quite funny, if you like slapstick 'bouncing off the big fella's chest and falling on your arse' sort of comedy.

Altbergs are popular, and I've ridden in army boots a few times but I don't make a habit of it as I think anything with laces is asking for trouble.

A friend of mine pulled up at a junction, went to put their foot down and fell over as the lace had looped itself around the peg...

If you're going to wear boots with laces, make sure there aren't any stray loops!

My current "winter" boots are Daytona Roadstar GTX - Gore-tex lined, very comfortable, and when you've worn the soles out, you can have them re-built for a fraction of the 'new' price.

My old man just strolled by and declared in his infinite wisdom that they are American Air Force boots.

Im enclined to believe him after god knows how many years working with them!

Saw a pair of puma boots in Bike this month of all things, and actually, they looked pretty solid.

I don't doubt that USAF personnel wear them, much as our own forces and police buy their own boots rather than wear GI issue.

As for stray loops and laces - I tuck them away purely because it looks messy having them hanging out, and I don't need to use them anyway because of the zip!

With regards to using them on any weasels that give me hassle - I very seldom have to resort to using my boots to educate people, (or objects) it's really only a last ditch resort or a means to force an entry.

I have a pair of Frank Thomas aquaboots for when its really wet and cold but right now im breaking in my Sidi vertebra's so they are on constantly - damn uncomfortable initially but i think they are starting to give slightly now (1 week in..)

I would wear the aquaboots but they look and feel like wellies so they are not my preferred choice..

Instant comfort is one huge advantage of modern patrol/combat boots. I went for a couple of miles' walk when mine arrived this afternoon, and by the end of the road they were bending and flexing in all the right places. Tomorrow I'll be wearing them for 10 hours getting to and from work (and working in the middle) and I suspect I will be none the worse for wear.

I normally wear a pair of caterpillar boots... these boots are actually 12 years old now, and nearing retirement. When they go, I will be buying exactly the same model of cat boot, that way I figure I can get away with only buying 3 pairs of shoes between now and when I'm 70. They've been to hell and back with me...

If it's BUCKETING, I wear diadora velcro-up bike boots.

I normally wear doc martens, they provide ok ankle support while still being smart looking and comfy for work....
