As for NCBs, I was just wondering if you are put down as a named rider, but not the proposer of the actual insurance policy, do you still gain an NCB as the years go by?

Was wondering, as putting me as a named rider under my Dad proposing takes about £2600 off of the insurance quote.

Looked around, can't seem to find an answer.

Depends on the insurance company, I know with Elephant (for the car insurance) that all named drivers on my policy earn NCB's but I think these NCB are only valid if the named driver who earned them takes insurance out with that company.

Basically just call the insurance company and ask them!

Even if you do gain NCB, like with Direct Line, their Name driver NCB is useful only to them, no other company will recognise it.

Stick his name on the V5c as well paulington? Might help a bit though convincing them your old man is the main rider on an RS50 might be a challenge Especially if he owns a larger bike.

Generally speaking it is the policy holder than builds up the no claims, rather than any named riders. So the basic answer to your question is that if your dad is the policy holder, you will not build up your own no claims.

At some point though you are going to have to take out your own 1st policy, so you will have to take the financial hit sooner or later, the choice of when is up to you.

Why not way it up?

£2,600 saving or a few NCB that could be lost with an accident.

It take you a while to save £2,600 just from the NCB you have.

I find the best 2 places for realistic prices is tesco compare and mcn compare.

Also try people like bennetts/carole nash seperately.

I reckon by trying the comparison sites alone you'll get quoted under a grand and a half on a 5 year old R6 or something similar even with your age and experience. Thats in your own name, and i presume you have a years ncb from your 50cc bike so you can keep that going too.
