Just got pulled over by surrey police 5 mins ago for "leaning my bike too far" and "silding the back wheel on conners" (was,nt speeding) so its against the law now to own a good handling bike??

Apparently he was on his away home too so let me off with a bollocking this time, after pretending to inspect my bike (FX400R) Rolling Eyes

Just go into a boring and technical ramble about how the rider doesn't lean the bike, he moves the handlebars and the bike leans itself. Oddly this phenomenon is caused by the centrepal force in the front wheel countering the tendancy of gravity...blah blah.

Keep going until about 20 seconds after their eyes glaze over and they will try their utmost to get rid of you as soon as possible.

My mate does this with his vintage trials bike when they stop him (going into great detail about the history and specification of the bike) and recons it works every time.

Surely its a matter of opinion, specifically his uneducated opinion, and something he can't prove.

If you were leaning the bike too far you'd be off, you didn't fall off so its not leaning the bike too far, case closed Exclamation

Should've asked him what angle he measured you at on his dashboard-mounted protractor...

Sounds like just an excuse to pull you over.

What stinkwheel said.

I use this tactic all the time. People just don't know how to deal with it and all they care about is getting you out of their sight.

I first honed the scatty, neurotic bimbo persona just for dealing with the police but it can be useful for getting your own way in lots of different situations.

Back to the subject at hand... I never knew that you could be stopped for leaning your bike too far. If you were badly positioned and leaning into the "decapitation zone" then that would be a different matter.

Why were you sliding? Your tyres should be sticking to the road like sh1t to a shovel in these temperatures surely?

i know they can pull you for getting your knee down on the road as it's considered dangerous riding and not being in control of your vehicle.

but leaning to far! not heard of that before.

I remember I was pulled over by Lambeth bridge and quizzed, basically for making good progress. When they asked which police station I'd like to produce at, I said "Walworth, please". I saw the WPC noting down "Woolworth" and nearly lost it. Walworth wasn't but a mile away from where we were standing. Obviously knowledge of the local area was way down on their list of priorities. Really inspirational stuff - not.

I wonder if bike cops would think the same ? Jonny? you there?,

anyway even at low low speed I can lean the bloody NTV far over , such that riders behind swore my side boxes touched the road , and this was sub 30MPH stuff in Plymouth where 100s of cameras force you to go slow everywhere.

I'm not going to lay into the copper at all because i'm sure there are plenty of weekend warriors who need to be calmed down. Being on the edge of your tyre puts you at a higher risk of losing it mid corner, a risk which directly affects other road users and pedestrians if it goes tits-up, so i think the copper was right to have pulled you over.

There's a difference between the speed limit and an apropriate speed for a certain stretch of road.

Although i can't see that if your riding within the speed limit, there is any requirement to get that low, unless you were pratting around in which case, the correct nick wouldve been riding without due care and attantion.
However, if he was on his own, and not in an area car fitted with a camera, then the chances of getting nicked are minimal, as it is your word against his. Same goes for getting pulled by a panda car for speeding, unless there are more than one of them in the car as the speedo is not callibrated.
They can make life a pain in the arse, producing documents etc. and chances are a traffic cop would have ignored it unless he deemed it dangerous.
I am not a cop, just know a few, all of which tend to ride bikes and are good guys, whos concern is more safety of you and other road users than filling out paperwork. That is unless you get cocky or mouthy in which case watch them find something wrong with your bike!!

First of all l,m not a "weekend warrior" l do over 300-400 miles a week and have owned 14 bikes over the past few years and my bikes are my only form of transport.

I wasn,t leaning the bike any more than what was required, l was on my way home after a long week at work wearing jeans and a jacket and was riding normally just like anyone else if l really wanted to throw the bike around and seroiusly lean it over l would of had my leathers on and my silders would be getting some use.
