Any help on getting them out. Got the plates off, just left with 4/6 studs in the engine.

They were properly rusted in.

Any tips on getting them out? Drill and Easy-outs? Or is it a case of taking it to Re-Bore to get them sorted?

If they are so rusted in they snapped off then an EZ out is the LAST thing you want to use - they will snap and you will cry.

Get some penetrating oil (not WD40) on the studs, then some heat and have at them with the mole grips... drilling them out is possible if you have a steady hand and some decent cobalt drill bits but if it were me and my attempts of brute force had failed I'd be taking it somewhere to get it sorted.

Good luck Thumbs Up .

Op they look a mess, if you are really stuck and have enough space a last option would be to weld a piece of flat bar onto the studs than wont budge to act as a lever to remove them, Ive done this in the past and it has worked but only as a last resort. Good Luck

I got 4 stuck in mine too, took it to a guy i know, he welded a cross bar to them, heated them up and slowly worked them out.

Charged me £30 and worked a treat.

He wasn't really a welder, he was an engineer who does a lot of bike stuff as a hobby.

Guess a welder could probably do it for you though.

Woop Woop, Stud extractors to the rescue!

All out, used the 8mm stud extractor and it rounded it off, then tried the 6mm and because i rounded it it fitted on just! Then undone it, very slowly making sure not to fuck it up.

Really happy now! Very Happy

Laughing Downpipes i will be trying to clean up tomorrow then refitting. Any tips, not many monies atm.

As for the engine. As you know i have f*cked my frame. So i purchased another Hooner from Liverpoooool, for the grand sum of £650.

Its scruffy, leaky rad and the gearbox output shaft is rounded, due to a dick who fitted the sprocket with the washer on the wrong side. Rolling Eyes

But am replacing engine with mine and finally getting a running bike. (as long as it goes well. Wink )

Thumbs Up

In all honesty, the downpipes look fucked, the plates are rusted quite bad (not as bad as mine were....) and i doubt you'll get a proper seal with them. Can get replacement new shiny ones or £200ish, or pick up some more second hand ones and clean them up.

Or soldier on with those.

If the downpipes are stainless steel then get some brick acid from a builders supplier and mix it 50/50 with water and brush onto the pipes (wear gloves and eye protection), hose of with clean water 2 minutes later , repeat if necessary and use some scotchbrite or fine wire wool for the stubborn stuff. They should come up as almost new.

Wirewool, autosol and loads of elbow grease!

You can get a polishing kit for 20 quid form egay taht will do the job in a much much shorter time (and achieve better results than wirewool)

I'll try and get some pictrues of the old and new downpipes (Hornet's) tomorrow and show you the difference Laughing

They're not stainless. You can buy stainless steel oens but the original ones weren't.

What you can do is buy a big tub to be able to fit them in and buy lots and lots of malt vinegar from sainbury's/tesco's and then soak the downpipes in it. Then leave them in there for a night or two. You'll be surprised how easy all the crap comes off! Shocked

Though your bike will smell like a chippy for a few miles Laughing

That's the guy I bought mine from. Changed slightly but you get the idea.

You get 3 abrasive mops, 3 polishing mops and 3 polishing bars. With some lime powder (no idea what for!) and a mask so you can feel like your killing pigs... or something. Shifty

Yes brick acid is the ticket provided it is diluted although I have used it neat for stubborn areas on stainless pipes, it is also widely used to clean road crude from alloy car wheels. Its as cheap as chips and has other uses for cleaning stubborn dirt of smooth surfaces but DO NOT use it on mild steel exhaust pipes.

I might be wrong... I think they're not but you can buy some so they don't go all crap as Hornet headers do. If they were stainless then they wouldn't corrode so easily... surely?
