Been phoning round for insurance on my ZZR this morning, and the company need to know where it was imported from. I had an hpi check done on the bike and they couldnt tell me where its from, I phoned the DVLA and neither can they. So I phoned the bloke I'm buying it off and he doesn't know either but said that his insurance company have never asked. So what do I do!?

They shouldn't care.

My bike's an import, never been questioned. I don't know where it came from, hopefully I'll never need to.

You can try this guy, he is advisor to the NSU register and a dating officer for British Independent Motorcycle Importers Association.

He has a vast archive of data and can give you date & place of manufacture and a date of original and UK registration for practically any bike.

He also lives just around the corner from Craig_!

You will need to have your frame number to hand.

You could try contacting Kawasaki and giving them the frame number etc. They would almost certainly be able to tell you which country it was first sold in.

I cant see why they are asking this question. however, If it were me I would most certainly tell them Japan. After all thats where I would presume the bike was built and you would not be lying.

If you ever make a claim and they ask you to prove it originated in Japan ask them to prove it wasnt.

My bet is they simply want to know if it a grey or parallel import rather than what country Question
