ok guys. After getting my GP100 on the road, not to mentioned the consent engine problems and getting it to run right. This is what happened when i suddenly just lost all power and clank clank clank clank!

Is a top end rebuild possible or am I gonna need to take the engine out of frame, strip and clean?

The piston has basically lost one of its lower flange and as i imagine its all broken up. The engine did run again after fitting a new plug but has bugger all power. It would rev to 5k rpm and sit there with a huge puff of smoke!

Rebore and new piston me thinks and to get the bloody timing sorted. Probably why it went in the first place, it was retarded but couldn't move the stator plate any further to advance the ignition! So might have to re drill and file the elongated holes further?!

What do you guys think I should do?

where is the debris from the piston?
at the very least its needing a new piston & the bottom end flushed out.
more likely you've damaged the crank &/or bearings & will have to drop the engine & split it,
have fun!
cheers,
GAZ
edit : the crank doesnt look in the best condition either, suspect your going to need it replaced.

If you want to re-use that crank case it MUST be split and every part cleaned thoroughly, it only takes a tiny fragment to get into a gearbox bearing to start it on the path to failure.

And "Sod's Law" clearly states that it will fail at the worst possible moment and in the worst possible way...

Locking the box and rear wheel solid during a top speed run perhaps?

good point but i thought the gearbox is sealed away from the combustion/crank chamber, tis a 2 stroke

well i just checked the con rod for vertical movement, and I can't really get any except sideways movement which is allowed for i hope!

So i think i'm all good without splitting the crank halves
