Music on bikes?

How many of you guys use a discman or an MP3 player like an iPOD or something when you ride?

and how much does it reduce concentraion while riding?

General agreement is:
No, don't have anything against it, but its a distraction and changing tracks whilst riding and wearing gloves is a bit tricky.

Only reason i don't do it, is because i never ever look at the rev counter, my judgement of engine revs is done by ea and music would mess that up.
Besides Music + Wind + engine = big mess of noise

i feel too detached with headphones on.. same as if i were in a car. Have to listen to the engine..

I use the bike better with music.

I get paranoid about engine noises with no headphones, with them its reduced a bit and I rasg teh biek around a lot better.

Go figure :/

I can't wear anything in my ears as I ride, earplugs or headphone things, affects my balance big time and I get rather wobbly round corners.

I've just bought an MP3 player to use at work/out and about .. I'm going to try it on the commute to work, see what it's like... I wouldn't use it for any distance, fast or fun rideouts though, but I might not even use it to work depending on how it feels with it in.

Changing tracks isn't a problem as you just set the MP3 player to random etc

i put my left earphone in on my ipod and make a playlist on it before i go!

Earplugs always.
Autocom + Mp3 works a treat, my concentration overrides the music.
Tried Sony earbud earphones but on the bike they don't suppress helmet/wind noise like earplugs do.

Why is this board so naff ? There's too much control/restriction on it.
I can spell, I even know the difference between 'their' 'there' and 'they're', I don't need to preview my post, yes I've read the rules and guidelines, just let me SUBMIT my post.

Listen to the right music not tunes that make you ride like a fool.

Chilled out music in left ear on the motorway (or both if its a long lonely run) rarely otherwise, my mini-disc lives in my bike coat pocket, left side in, buff over the top, helmet on, very comfy..

It really does make longer mway rides way more fun, instead of just being mind numbing you can sing allong to whatever while you sit trundleing behind a lorry going an acceptable rate Smile

Best to put it on random and leave it well alone, doing anything to it on the move is not a great idea.

What about using mobile handsfree kits?

I dont do it and wouldnt even attempt it - no phone call i recieve is worth it!

I heard Somerset Scratcher mention it and wondered how this compares to music.... and cagers talking on their phones

if you're talking about on a bike, the autocom suppresses music - something that wouldn't happen in a tin box plus the temptation to not be hands-free is too great for too many.
Personally, on the rare occassion of getting a call on the bike and being 'busy' I found it an automatic response to ignore the phone and tell the caller to wait ...
