PDAs as GPS are bad , they get shaken so badly they break , but what about other electronics?
purely for work,I carry a PDA and a notebook PC, the PDA and note book are for work
and are switched off , the K800I and old nokia is on all the time.As I get work calls now and again
theres a clause in my contract which says I have to pay if I break stuff/it gets stolen.
Since Manchester roads have not been maintained since the 50s, and have tons of pot holes you can lose
lorries down, and lumpy bits which go all the way across the road which are unavoidable.
So the poor conditions how does this affect electronic toys we all carry?.
I'm sure things with moving parts ie HDDs in all sorts of things should be switched off in transit
but what about more solid state electronics?.
I carried an old dell laptop up and down the country for 2 years and it didn't miss a beat, but motorways
are pretty smoothish A roads and city roads are not, and I only had to travel a few 100 miles
every few months I currently put around 2-300 a week.
Also does it matter how you carry them? , the note book is carried in me tank bag , the PDA in
my side bum bag type thing on my left , my phone in my shift breast pocket.
I don't want to be facing a huge repair bill for stuff that isn't mine!.
I see my K800I sometimes have a garbled screen after I commute in , which is corected when I turn it
off and sometimes the PDA needs its memory cards put back. the note book seems ok right now,
Any thoughts?

your electronics will be fine unless you fall off. My laptop PDA and phone for work have done about 800miles and ive been over speed humps with them and all kinds of bumps.
Just make sure you get a WELL paded laptop bag mine cost £60, and has inflatable pockets of air
HDD's dont get that badly effected when off as the needle sits in the "resting place". If the things on and you drive home with it in your backpack it wont do it much good. Just remeber the trick is not short sharp shocks but smooth long ones so lots of padding seems to make this.
For the PDA its a case of doing the same as the laptop to stop vibrations. I have the k750i (little brother) and that seems to withstand travel very well ebut once again if in the lapotop ruck sack itll be fine!
And i found this with my mate. If you put the stuff in the rucksack it doesnt get shacken around as much, this is due to your body flexing about and absorbing the shocks. When in a tanks bag etc its taking the same shock as you FEEL! ____________________ 2005 - 2006:Peugeot jet force 50 TDSI (sold)

never had a problem using my iPaq RX3715 as a GPS.. worked fine, and didn't break.
Likewise my current smartphone, QTek 9000 (aka o2 XDA Exec) when it sits in the FJR's 'glove box' playing tunes thru the autocom..
Solid state stuff is bound to be more robust, by it's nature.. and I've not had anything significant fail.
I've broken and lost more electronic stuff than had it fail on me.
